Title: Engineering Manager*
Location: Indiana-Indianapolis
3M is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager for the Occupational Health & Environmental Safety Division

Job Summary :
The person hired for the position of Engineering Manager will provide overall leadership for the Indianapolis Engineering staff; lead specific engineering projects; work with department managers to continually evaluate, develop, and execute projects that improve safety, reduce costs, and improve quality; and establish focus, direction, and priority for production support and multiple capital projects.

Roles and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Engineering Department and Staff:
Coach, counsel, and develop skills of engineering staff and monitor performance and provide training. Perform annual performance evaluations for engineering staff direct reports. Make job responsibilities/assignments decisions and set priorities relative to engineering department. Responsible for developing engineering budget and managing department expenses within budget guidelines.

Capital Projects:
Develop yearly capital and savings plans to maximize ROI. Evaluate and support all capital projects for Indianapolis departments. Compile daily record keeping and research documentation, prepare project updates and summaries of activities.

Manufacturing Operations:
Coordinate engineering support of manufacturing operations to include, troubleshooting, developing solutions, selecting vendors, identifying equipment, and implementing changes as needed for manufacturing success. Support maintenance and operations through documentation, training and hands-on troubleshooting of existing and new equipment. Review and develop standard operating procedures for new equipment, modifications, and materials needed. Provide contact with present and potential vendors assisting purchasing with the quotation and negotiation processes. Resolve customer complaints with Quality department as needed. Work closely with management and employees to keep open lines of communication to achieve team concept goals for our organization.

Process and Technology:
Serve as primary liaison between Indianapolis and Corporate Technical Departments in developing new formulations, new manufacturing methods and new products. Provide product technology assessment and development of next generation processing technologies, principally polyurethane molding, high speed packaging and other technologies that may be used for the manufacture of products. Provide and direct design and testing of new processes to include directing or providing the generation of drawings, performance criteria, directing or specification of prototype equipment that may be used for manufacture of prototype or production products. Provide or direct engineering analysis using procedures that include generation of drawings, engineering design principles, process capabilities and machine layouts. Conduct searches for the evaluation of processing/packaging technologies that are amenable for the use with either existing materials or new materials that may be used in the manufacture of products. Experiment with prototype equipment that may be used for manufacture, provide data and report/review results.

Location and Travel : The person hired for the position of Engineering Manager will be located in Indianapolis, Indiana and may include up to 5% travel.

Basic Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree
* Minimum of 5 years combined experience in continuous process and/or automated packaging
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering
* 7 or more years of combined experience in manufacturing, supply chain and/or quality
* 5 or more years of combined experience with automation assembly and/or high speed packaging machines
* Experience with CAD/CAM and CNC controlled equipments (e.g. lathe, mill, wire EDM)
* Prior experience participating in six sigma green belt or black belt projects
* Significant Lean and/or Lean Six Sigma experience in a manufacturing setting
* Knowledge and experience using Lean Six Sigma tools and methodology for problem solving, project management, control plans, and/or continuous improvement
* Demonstrated experience with capital budgeting, capital justification and capital project management
* Self starter/self directed that leads with high energy and passion
* Ability to work with cross functional teams and across multiple functions and disciplines
* Effective facilitation, communication and teaching skills
* Ability to engage and influence the organization
* Ability to multi-task and handle large workloads under time constraints
* Ability to understand and apply analytical and statistics tools
* Results oriented with strong process and execution skills
