Job Summary: The Product Development Engineerwill support the commercialization of high impact, new product programs. Responsibilities for this role include building advanced understanding of materials and process technologies that will drive successful new product commercialization programs. Material characterization of unique polymeric/inorganic composite materials will be completed to support laboratory development and pilot plant development trials. We have an energized team and a global network to meet the needs of both multinational and local customers. 3M’s Industrial Adhesives and Tapes Division is seeking a Product Development Engineer located in Maplewood, MN Roles and Responsibilitiesinclude but are not limited to the following: * Participate in global cross functional NPI project teams supporting the commercialization of new shape memory polymer technologies into the electronics and metal fabrication markets. * Lead material characterization efforts to build a fundamental understanding of the material – process- property relationships. * Collaborate with laboratory, sales, marketing, manufacturing and quality functions to build a robust product solution that meets the key customer requirements. * Prototyping and building new product concepts will be required to build initial understanding of the product capability. * Interact with Corporate Research Labs to collaborate and transfer key technologies/measurement techniques. * Other duties as assigned. Relocation: Relocation is authorized within country for this opportunity per 3M policies. Location: The person hired for the position ofProduct Development Engineer will be located in Maplewood, MNand thisposition may include up to 10% travel. Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree or higher in a Science or Engineering discipline from an accredited university. Preferred Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemistry, or Material Science from an accredited university. * Experience with new product commercialization including a track record of successful commercialization’s. * Innovative, resourceful, organized, and experienced self starter. * Collaborative interpersonal style. * Excellent hand written and oral communication skills with analytical problem solving ability. * Ability to manage and investigate new technology areas with confidence.
