Job Summary:
The Product Development Specialistwill lead the commercialization of high impact, new product programs. Responsibilities for this role include leading the investigation and development of new product platforms, inventing new materials and processes to enable our customers to thrive in the marketplace, and building strong intellectual property.

3M’s Industrial Adhesives and Tapes Division is seeking a Product Development Specialist located in Maplewood, MN

Roles and Responsibilitiesinclude but are not limited to the following:

Drive the development and commercialization of new 3M products and technology platforms.
*
Collaborate with laboratory, sales, marketing, manufacturing and quality functions to build a robust product solution that meets the key customer requirements.
*
Work with our key customers in understanding their functional requirements then translating their input into 3M solutions.
*
Investigate and explore new technologies that will create strong, viable technology platforms that will support key market growth spaces.
*
Work on high impact, cross functional teams to build a healthy pipeline of new 3M technology for use in the general industrial market space.
*
Build strong intellectual property coverage for key inventions.
*
Prototyping and building new product/technology concepts will be required to build initial understanding of the technology capability.
*
Interact with Corporate Research Labs to collaborate and transfer key new technologies.
*
Build collaborative relationships inside 3M, especially with the Corporate Research Labs to transfer key new technologies.
*
Other duties as assigned.
Relocation: Relocation is authorized within country for this opportunity per 3M policies.

Location: The person hired for the position of Product Development Specialistwill be located in Maplewood, MNand thisposition may include up to 10% travel.
Basic Qualifications:
*
Bachelor's degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university.
*
Minimum three years combined experience in new product and/or process commercialization.
Preferred Qualifications:

*
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemistry or Material Science from an accredited university.
*
Experience working with polymeric materials, adhesives and precision coating technologies.
*
Experience working with polyurethanes.
*
Experience with bulk chemical processing and scaling liquid chemicals from laboratory setting to manufacturing.
*
Experience with aerosol spray materials that lead to optimized spray applications.
*
Experience with new product commercialization including a track record of successful commercialization’s.
*
Experience in leading technical programs with large industrial accounts.
*
Innovative, resourceful, organized, and experienced self starter.
*
Collaborative interpersonal style with experience in leading project teams.
*
Excellent hand written and oral communication skills with analytical problem solving ability.
*
Ability to manage and investigate new technology areas with confidence.
