Electrical Engineer
Cedar Rapids, IA

This is an exempt level position.

Job Summary:

Candidate will assist project managers with design, construction, and implementation of electrical and instrument portions of new industrial projects and alterations to existing processes. Candidate will field inquiries regarding I&E requirements for potential projects. Candidate will assist in corporate thrusts including coordination and fault current studies, aid in development of facility electrical standards, assist in review of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, development and update of I/O lists, and selection of field instrumentation. Candidate should expect to interact with many disciplines during project phases, including contractor management, environmental engineering, electrical engineering, safety professionals, controls programmers, and construction managers. Candidate will provide updates to various levels of company management. Candidate should expect to assist with startup activities including device calibration, testing, and troubleshooting.

Essential Job Functions:

· Review and select suitable wiring diagrams for electrics and instrumentation. Candidate should have knowledge and familiarity of High Voltage Power Transmission and Power Distribution. Strong trouble-shooting and collaboration skills are essential.

· Candidate should be proficient with MS Word, Excel, Project, and have some experience with MS Access and CAD programs.

· Willing to learn and teach new technology with a progressive approach to mentoring colleagues within the facility.

· Self-starter and willing to take on new responsibilities while mastering

· Ideal candidate is progressive and willing to learn and teach about new technology. Candidate should be a self-starter and willing to take on new responsibilities while mastering new areas of knowledge and expertise. Candidate should have some experience with Good Manufacturing Practices and Behavioral Based Safety programs. Some experience with the following is expected:

Education/Training:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology or equivalent.

Experience:

· 3 – 5+ years’ experience with electrical / instrumentation projects in the agricultural, industrial, pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, renewable fuels or petrochemical sectors.

· A minimum of 1 year experience with P&D’s and CAD documents.

Special Skills:

· Familiarity with ladder logic and operator interface systems.

· Candidate should have knowledge and familiarity of High Voltage Power Transmission and Power Distribution.

o The scope of the position requires exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, and cleaners that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed.

· Inside areas:

o Spring / Summer: Temperatures in some areas of the facility will be up to or exceed 100 degrees

o Fall / Winter: Temperatures in the facility may be at or below freezing.

· Outside areas:

o Spring / Summer: Outside temperature may be up to or exceed 100 degrees with potential for high humidity. May be exposed to inclement weather conditions including, but not limited to, rain and wind.

o Fall / Winter: Outside temperatures may reach freezing or below. May be exposed to inclement weather including, freezing rain, sleet, snow and wind.

· Some manufacturing processes within the facility are highly reliant on machinery and other processing equipment and, as a result, noise levels may reach or exceed 85 decibels and require use of hearing protection for most of the work shift.

Physical Requirements:

· Able to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.

o Lifting or carrying of weights over 50 pounds is rare. Employees are encouraged to request assistance in lifting or carrying objects that weigh more than 50 pounds.

· Able to traverse up to two (2) miles during the course of a work day.

· Able to move about or to a work site by stooping, bending, kneeling or squatting frequently during the course of a work day. May require periods of prolonged sitting or standing.

· Able to operate equipment or diagnose / detect issues of machinery that may be located at different heights. May require work on ladders, scaffolding or other work at heights.

· Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and test equipment, to move throughout the facility, including climbing stairs in all buildings, and to work at heights.
