The California Division of the American Cancer Society has an immediate opening for a Community Mission Director in Palm Desert, CA (will also work out of the El Centro office and with the Imperial County communities 2-3 days a week). Using your strong interpersonal and communications skills, you will work with staff and volunteers to implement the American Cancer Society’s health programs to constituents, with an emphasis on cancer patients and the medically underserved populations. The Community Mission Director (CMD) will recruit, screen, recognize, and manage patient service volunteers and programs and be responsible for managing relationships with community-based organizations, healthcare professionals, employers and select youth programs. Additionally, the CMD will work with event staff and volunteers to coordinate related cancer education, advocacy, and survivor activities for events such as Relay For Life.

**Territory is Southern California focused on the following counties: Imperial and
Riverside (Palm Desert). The primary work location is the Palm Desert office, but will also work out of the Imperial County office in El Centro approximately 2-3 days a week.

Position Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, public health related field or equivalent work experience and a minimum of 3 years directly related experience, preferably in the non-profit sector is required. Must demonstrate the ability to build relationships, persuade and influence others. Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly desired. Ideal candidate will also be computer literate in Microsoft Word, database management, and Lotus Notes. Candidate must possess the ability to travel by car or plane to client and employer locations for meetings and trainings. Some logistical support at events/meetings, including set-up and take-down requiring lifting and carrying of materials is required.
