Responsible for planning and implementing all public relations efforts for AIG Life & Retirement and its businesses. Develop and implement an external communications strategy and key messages for AIG Life & Retirement. Act as chief media spokesperson. Develop and implement a press strategy for the entire business structure that will include written and electronic media outreach, crisis management and relationship development. This would include the drafting and dissemination of press releases, briefing documents, media training, and oversight of any external public relations agency relationships.
Direct, plan and implement all public relations efforts for AIG Life & Retirement and its unique businesses, including American General (life and A&H) , SunAmerica (variable annuity business), VALIC (403(b) plan provider), Western National (fixed annuity business), SAAMCo (mutual fund business) and Advisor Group (independent broker-dealers)
Develop PR plans for businesses and help position executives as industry thought leaders
Draft/manage campaigns/releases/talking points for media interviews/media statements and all public relations initiatives
Maintain favorable relations with media; pitch stories directly to media
Research opportunities for positive press coverage and speaking opportunities, i.e. industry conferences, media conferences, etc.
Organize all materials related to public relations function (editorial calendars, media lists, press releases, reporter research, etc.)
Responsible for coordinating all targeted publication listings and rankings reports
Responsible for overseeing the gathering of media and analyst coverage, analysis, and storage of clips and files.
Collaborate closely with the rest of the AIG Corporate Communications team, particularly media relations colleagues from other segments of AIG
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, business or related field.
Minimum of 10-15 years professional experience in public relations, preferably for financial services company, ideally with experience in insurance and/or retirement products
Broad based global financial services and/or insurance industry experience
Demonstrable track record of experience in communications and media relations showing career progression and increased levels on responsibility up to middle and senior management; strong business acumen with a proven track record of making sound judgments
Deep understanding of channel management and recommended vehicles for strategic messaging
Deep and experienced media relations skills with extensive network of key reporters and media outlets
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; should be comfortable with public speaking and presenting information to internal and external audiences
Flexibility for travel to key U.S. offices (New York, Houston and Los Angeles)
