About This Position

The Medical Social Worker, MSW is expected to perform duties in alignment with the mission and policies of the organization. Performs duties in support of and in compliance with the performance improvement plan, Joint Commission, and other licensing, accrediting and regulatory agencies. Functions under the general/minimal supervision of the Supervisor of Social Services. Through screening mechanisms, identifies patients who are at high risk for need of social service intervention. Provides psychosocial assessments, identifies problems/issues such as social, emotional, maturational (newborn through geriatric, depending on assignment) cultural, financial and/or legal followed by implementation of suitable interventions. Provides appropriate assistance to enable patients/families to utilize medical care in order to achieve the optimum levels of health. Assists Social Services Supervisor in planning programs, developing, and updating departmental policies and procedures. Previous hospital social work experience preferred. Master"s Degree in Social Work. Must be knowledgible regarding interview, assessment, consultation, and documentation techniques. Should have knowledge, understanding, and ability to access community resources, governmental and social agencies which may be required to meet patient needs. Awareness and abilty to work with cultural diversity. Knowledge of and adherence to National Association of Social Workers Code Of Ethics. Must be able to: function independently; prioritize and organize workload; assess information in order to make appropriate decisions; build trust and respect; participate as a team player, relate to and work with the elderly, ill, disabled and/or emotionally impaired individual in the hospital environment. Current BLS Certification required.
