Director of Nursing Education Full time Baylor University Medical Center Dallas, TX Coordinates and manages the Baylor Center for Nursing Education and Research as well as unit/department-based educators/clinical nurse specialists, which plans, develops, implements and evaluates nursing orientation, continuing education and professional development for RNs, LVNs and unlicensed nursing staff. Oversees nursing quality improvement, peer review, research and evidence-based practice and insures nursing education and practice are continually updated in a timely manner through these initiatives. Collaborates with faculty of the schools of nursing and coordinates undergraduate and graduate student nurse clinical rotations for BUMC. Investigates, develops and applies for grants to support nursing education and research. Partners with the Baylor Foundation to develop proposals to fund nursing education and research initiatives. Develops implements and monitors goals and objectives, policies and procedures as well as operational and capital budgets for the Center.
Plans and sets goals and objectives for the future of the Center which includes determining the services needed, the most effective way to provide them and the resources necessary to support them. Manages and directs the Center’s operations and facilities which includes activities such as establishing goals, monitoring statistics, developing work plans, managing facilities and supervising on a day-to-day basis. Maintains knowledge of nursing trends and educational techniques and program evaluation methods. Develops and implements innovative, effective and efficient programs for at least, but not limited to, the following key areas:
Orientation and continuing education of RNs, LVNs and unlicensed nursing staff working in patient care units/departments
Nursing quality improvement program Nursing peer review program Nursing research and publications Patient acuity/classification system Nursing policies and procedures Nursing leadership development
Community Training Center for American Heart Association (AHA) basic and advanced life support courses
American Nurses’ Credentialing Center continuing education (CE) provider Distance learning
Coordination of undergraduate and graduate student nurse clinical rotations Patient education (including the use of the Baylor TV network)
Prepares and maintains the Center’s resources. Coordinates the development and application of the Center’s technology which includes selecting, designing, implementing, evaluating and monitoring computer equipment, technology and software. In addition, facilitates, coordinates and manages selected IS/technology nursing projects that impact patient care.care.
Acts as a consultant to nursing staff for continuing education, research and publication needs. Provides proactive customer-oriented services. Routinely surveys customer needs and insures the Center is meeting the needs of is customers in a timely, effective manner. Collaborates with faculty of the schools of nursing to achieve organizational and community goals
Manages the Center’s financial resources which include developing and administering budgets and identifying new revenue resources. Develops short and long-range budgets in support of the strategic plan.
Develops short and long-range budgets in support of the strategic plan. Prepares, justifies and gains approval for, and administers the annual capital and operational budgets.
Reviews and approves expenditures monthly and tracks them against the approved budget. Justifies variances
Prepares applications for grants (local, state, federal and philanthropic) and administers funds received to increase revenue for the Center.
Collaborate with BHCS Foundation and/or International Services to obtain financial support for CNER programs
Manages the Center’s personnel which includes, hiring, training and evaluating personnel.
Defines responsibilities and writes position descriptions for Center personnel and reviews them annually.
Recruits, selects, appoints trains, motivates and evaluates Center personnel.
Provides staff development and continuing education opportunities for Center personnel Collaborates with the Department of Human Resources in the recruitment and retention of nursing staff.
Markets and promotes the Center and its products and services. This responsibility includes publications, programming and public relations.
Develops and distributes promotional materials such as newsletters, brochures and information packets.
Develops in-services and outreach programs to market services and interprets Center resources.
Develops seminars and workshops that support the goals and objectives of the organization.
Collaborates with A. Webb Roberts Center for Continuing Education in the development, implementation and evaluation of continuing education programs.
Establishes and maintains rapport with current and potential Center clients. Participates in policy-making forums and advisory groups and committees at the local, state and national level.
Represents the Center at internal and external meetings and functions. Establishes support through development activities such as advisory committees or fundraising activities to assist in the promotion of Center products and services.
Develops key contacts within the medical, health and information communities. Works with International Services when and where appropriate to market programs in other countries
Oversees the management and operation of the Data Center, including: The generation of various periodic and ad hoc reports utilized by Division A-1 and Administration.
The input and technical auditing of data necessary to generate patient acuity and cost accounting data for use by Division A-1 Management and Administration.
Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of the BCON system within Division A-1 including input into purchase of hardware/software, installation and debugging of system, and employee education.
Oversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical and management programs within Division A-1 including:
• The development of patient classification systems. • The development of programs to alleviate employee stress. • The preparation of proformas with respect to new Nursing Services. • The development of Quality Assurance Programs for Division A-1. • Interfacing with various departments of Medical Center to implement and evaluate • programs affecting Division A-1.
The completion of various projects central to Division A-1. Reviews and approves Nursing procedures and protocols for Division A-1. Publishes, reviews, revises, and integrates policies and procedures within Nursing Services.
Assists in obtaining solutions to interdepartmental problems.
Acts as liaison with A. Webb Roberts Center for Continuing Education in the formulation and presentation of continuing education programs. Chairs Nursing Continuing Education Advisory Subcommittee.
Ensures that all continuing education programs seeking accreditation by American Nurses Credential Center (ANCC) meet criteria guidelines.
Serves on Continuing Education Planning Committees for programs desiring accreditation.
Serves as Chairperson of the Nursing Research Committee; participates in decisions of Committee to approve or disapprove nursing research; assists in documenting committee activities.
Coordinates Nursing schools' clinical rotations at Baylor University Medical Center (BUMC).
Liaison to BUMC, University of Texas at Arlington, Texas Woman's University and El Centro Schools of Nursing; serves as an advisor for Dallas County Community Colleges Schools of Nursing.
Remains knowledgeable of Nursing trends and educational techniques. Reviews the feasibility of implementing new modalities in Nursing education.
