This position works collaboratively across the company to direct and oversee the successful implementation of actuarial and underwriting initiatives through identifying synergies and interdependencies across corporate programs, projects and initiatives.  Responsible for designing, developing, leading and delivering cross functional initiatives to support corporate goals and objectives through leveraging expertise in product pricing and rating methodology, processes and tools.  Interacts with senior leadership, internal and external stakeholders to communicate, organize, plan, strategize and or oversee specific activities due to major legislative change such as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
  • Provide strategic oversight to project management such as developing work plans, scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and creation of teams of internal and external subject matter experts.


  • Ensure Vice President and Chief Actuary, Vice President Actuarial Pricing and Vice President Underwriting are apprised of corporate initiatives and interdependencies that impact products and customer service by initiating analyses, summarizing conclusions and making recommendations.


  • Prepare and deliver formal presentations, discussion documents and updates for the division and senior executive team raising awareness of risks and driving resolutions with stakeholders and senior leadership.


  • Oversee divisional performance management efforts including development of annual goals, work plans, budget, resource management, continuous quality improvement, communication and key indicator reports to assess progress.


  • Seek personal development and improvement opportunities and understand corporate cross functional objectives and cultural beliefs.
Responsible to plan, organize, direct, control, and lead assigned business unit; specialize in development, planning, and leadership; operate within broad objectives to ensure optimum utilization of capital, manpower, and equipment for the assigned business unit.
Manage activities of a department including but not limited to planning, problem solving, staff development and communication. Execute function/area objectives that support continuous improvement. Manage professional, exempt, and non-exempt non-bargaining and bargaining unit employees. Responsible for special projects and/or problem resolutions. Provide effective and efficient solutions to complex business problems. Provide high level oversight and leadership.  Manages departmental subordinate supervisors who supervise departmental employees as shown on the organizational chart.  Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.  Also directly supervises departmental non-supervisory employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field required.  Master's Degree in related field considered a plus. 
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years experience in related field including experience in a leadership role.
  • Ability to work under general direction.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Good analytical, organizational, planning, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Other related skills and/or abilities may be required to perform this job.




  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Actuarial Science, Mathematics or related field required.


  • Health care industry experience required.




  • Experience with actuarial principles, practices, financial planning and pricing preferred.


  • PMP or Sig Sigma certification preferred.
