Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Senior Electrical Technician is accountable for the daily maintenance of the power generation and distribution systems, which are critical to the safe and efficient operation of the facility. This position is responsible for promptly resolving electrical power generation, utilization, transformation and distribution issues. The Senior Electrical Technician utilizes the maintenance management system and liaises with the operations and maintenance team as well as electrical engineers, ensuring control and monitoring systems remain reliable and safe. ACCOUNTABILITIES Ensure all activities are performed safely, within relevant regulatory and company requirements, and in accordance with HSEC standards Contribute to the daily work plan and ensure jobs are completed safely and efficiently Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in support of the electrical team Support the training and competency development of team, ensuring roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and understood Identify options for OPEX reduction and production optimization BEHAVIOURAL & LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES Serves as both a coach and mentor across the team Asks questions to actively understand tasks and responsibilities Readily accepts coaching and mentoring from others, acknowledging areas of personal growth and development Has training objectives and tasks set by self and Supervisor Maintains compliance with procedures and work instructions Has desire to learn and challenge self Identifies potential improvements, assessing gains and generating recommendations accordingly ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Ensure company and 3rdparty compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements as well as all BHP Billiton HSEC and operational standards, policies and practices Participate in and lead safety-related drills and exercises; lead facility HSEC meetings as required Responsible for facility electrical safety; supervise during emergency situations as required Safeguard and maintain generators, power transformers, switchgear, MCC's, motors, and electrical control systems Verify safe control and isolation to enable access to systems and equipment Ensure proper and safe utilization of the permit-to-work and lock-out / tag-out system; approve work permits as required Verify all authorized work permits are in place before commencement of work and ensure permits are clear before reinstatement Ensure utilization of procedures and work instructions; ensuring compliance by facility personnel and contractors Conduct preventative and predictive maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime Calibrate and inspect protective relaying and measurement devices Diagnose system and equipment faults and implement approved corrective actions Interpret condition monitoring surveys to identify early performance deterioration and take necessary action to prevent equipment failure Support resolution of technical issues related to facility electrical equipment Maintain documentation for systems and equipment, including one-line diagrams, schematics, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, equipment drawings and other relevant discipline documents Establish adequate levels of electrical spare parts and supplies Audit site work practices and conformance to management systems Enter and retrieve data from 1SAP and update site reports as required EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications A minimum of 6 years experience in the hydrocarbons industry and / or a relevant trade qualification or certificate required Experience and Technical Competencies Experience in industry power generation and distribution systems required Strong health, safety, environmental record required Strong team working skills, along with experience in working with engineers and / or multi-disciplinary teams required Ability to work in small/confined spaces, as well as work on high platforms, walk on high elevation grating and walk up and down steps required Ability to troubleshoot common problems associated with electrical and ancillary electrical control systems required Experience with medium voltage generation and distribution systems (480 V required) required Experience with high voltage systems (4160 V) preferred Experience in the calibration and diagnostics of voltage regulators, solid state protective devices, synchronizing equipment, generators, large motors, transformers, power transducers and VFD's preferred Strong regional regulatory compliance record preferred Language Specific to the Region THINK OF THE OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN BHP BILLITON.
