PURPOSE

As a member of the Business Development Team, the Senior Petroleum Engineer has primary responsibility for supporting the Senior Manager Business Development in assessing North American acquisitions and divestitures. The Senior Petroleum Engineer will research, gather and analyse technical information, perform economic analysis using Aries and/or Excel spreadsheets and prepare presentations as required. He/she may also be asked to provide engineering support to studies under the guidance of the VP Exploration or others.

In addition, this person could be asked to support business development activities outside North America and/or North America Shale Division planning process.

The incumbent will provide consistent, high-quality support essential to achieving the goals and objectives of the team, the Division, and the Petroleum CSG.
ACCOUNTABILITIES

Support Business Development in the acquisition and divestment of assets and companies as directed by Senior Manger Business Development.

Research, technical analysis, economic analysis and data gathering.
KEY DELIVERABLES / KEY DIMENSIONS

Understand the key elements associated with acquisitions and divestitures (reserves calculations, operations assessment, etc)

Work with Aries economics program and/or familiar with other economics programs.

Strong technical skills.

Utilize internet and outside service providers to gather data (i.e.: IHS, Woodmac, etc)

Able to work under pressure and on tight project deadlines

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for technical data input for acquisitions and divestitures. Including, reserves calculation/verification (via decline curve analysis, material balance or volumetric methods), assessment of drilling, completion methods and operating practices, including capex and opex, and identify potential areas for improving value as appropriate.

Utilize Aries software and/or excel spreadsheets to build or modify input data representing field development plans and production forecasts. Use Aries to generate cash flows, reserves estimates and economics.

Assess input data for accuracy and highlight areas of uncertainty or faulty data.

Check output results for correctness.

Build and/or use existing Excel spreadsheets to analyse data.

Manage data sets.

Perform research using external online data services, internet and third party reports to assess opportunities

Extract data and summarize as required.

Monitor competitive transactions and available opportunities.

Generate presentation materials using Powerpoint and present data and ideas to management.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

BS Engineering degree required (Petroleum preferred).

Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact with and influence both management and multi-disciplinary teams.

Experience & Technical Competencies

Minimum 10 years experience in upstream petroleum industry required, with preference given to persons with onshore US experience.

High level analytical and technical skills.

Advanced knowledge of computer software systems under the current Windows suite of packages with emphasis on Excel spreadsheets and Powerpoint.
