PURPOSE BHPB Petroleum is seeking Geoscientists to work within its Exploration Access Team with primary responsibility for undertaking basin/regional and play scale analysis in support of both existing exploration areas and new acreage capture. BHPB Petroleum currently operates exploration licenses globally, is involved in active and extensive exploration in these areas and is aggressively pursuing new growth opportunities globally. The Geoscientist will work within a small team of experienced geoscientists and be responsible for delivering regional/play scale mapping and basin analyses. This includes all aspects of petroleum systems evaluation, integrating outcrop, well, seismic and gravity/magnetic mapping/modeling, with the goal of improving the team's basin knowledge and facilitating high-grading of the most prospective areas. In addition, the Geoscientist will be expected to maintain an active industry scouting role and to participate in the identification and evaluation of new opportunities. Accordingly, attending Farmout datarooms, undertaking prospect characterization, risking and volumetric calculations, is also an expected part of the role. The job will also involve working with and giving regular presentations to BHPB management, host country governments and agencies as applicable. Delivery of high-quality interpretation products, including quality control and overall integration of all relevant geoscience studies / results from contributing specialists; apply regional understanding to the definition and risking of basins and plays. Participate in opportunity risking, and development of economic cases for new acreage capture. Represent BHP Billiton Petroleum, as necessary, at potential partner and government meetings. Work with the Global Exploration and Geoscience Function groups to ensure compliance with company standards and take part in peer-assists / reviews. Work both independently and in collaboration with the team and specialists to generate new concepts and opportunities. Monitor global industry activity, including significant drilling and seismic operations in basins of interest. Build and maintain good relationships with the Team, Industry and host country Governments. Demonstrate personal leadership and provide a strong creative influence for the team. Identification and assessment of new opportunities and regional and play analysis to support acreage capture. Superior working knowledge and track record of basin evaluation, source/charge modeling and play fairway analysis, with a proven ability to synthesize and interpret diverse regional datasets Superior geological / geophysical interpretation and mapping skills, with a strong working knowledge of structural and stratigraphic interpretation methods, including sequence stratigraphy and basic well log petrophysical analysis. A strong working knowledge and relevant experience working in a variety of tectonic and depositional settings (passive / rifted / fold-thrust, shelf / deep water, clastic / carbonate) The capability to generate new play concepts, challenge existing models / interpretations and champion ideas A sound working knowledge of the prospect maturation process, including volumetric / risk assessments and valuation methods Proficiency with Landmark, Petrosys and ArcGIS software required, familiarity with Kingdom SMT and Petrel would be advantageous LANGUAGES: Excellent written and spoken English THINK OF THE OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN BHP BILLITON.
