PURPOSE

The main focus for this position is to provide technical computing support to the user community of Drilling applications. This would primarily include interacting with users to analyze and resolve application and data related issues. The successful candidate will be a part of the Subsurface Systems Team with experience in Drilling, Completions and Production workflows and software support.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Work with business, data management team and vendors to improve capabilities and improve efficiency of the drilling and completions software and its application within BHP Billiton.

Liaise with business, vendors and co-workers to proactively resolve issues (data, database, workflows, computing environment) and ensure utilization of best practices where possible. After hours support/issue resolution is also required on an as needed basis.

Work collaboratively with co-workers to develop innovative solutions to complex problems.

Work with vendors, co-workers and industry peers to review new software, technologies and data management methodologies for potential application within BHP Billiton Petroleum.

Work collaboratively to scope, drive, execute and deliver global projects as required.

Plans and completes workflow segments in own discipline, meeting goals and deadlines of the team.

Shares responsibility for team deliverables.

Works on risk-based decisions independently, presenting results for peer assessment and approval.

Considers the broader basis of decision-making in the team.

Participates in peer reviews.

Participates in sessions to help define requirements and deliverables.

Participates in planning, scheduling, and resourcing discussions, able to influence planning process as a result of recognized expertise

Other:

Document all tasks using Job / Task tracking application (Footprints).

Document all major projects using existing BHPB Petroleum's Small Project Management methodology and tools.

KEY DIMENSIONS

Provide computing support for Drilling and Completions applications

Plan and coordinate new software evaluations

Coordination of application installs and upgrades, taking into account systems software and hardware implications. This includes coordination with the hardware systems group, testing and notification to end users.

Monitor the use of Drilling and Completions applications and perform license utilization reviews.

Generate workflows to enhance productivity in the Drilling domain and promote the use of in-house technical applications.

Keep abreast of new technology trends by attending trade shows and vendor demonstrations for the purpose of recommending new technical software. Also responsible for planning in-house sessions promoting new technology.

Train and mentor end users in the effective use of the software tools available, enabling them to maximize their productivity.

Work closely with other members of the subsurface applications support and data management team.

Understand systems requirements of new projects and actively plan systems capacity requirements.

Manage relationships with external service providers; information technology, hardware and software vendors.

Assist in the development, implementation and enforcement of policies, standards and procedures for the application support environment.

Special projects as defined by the Geoscience Computing Supervisor or Subsurface Applications Manager.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Reservoir Engineering, Production Engineering or an equivalent combination of education, technical training and work experience.

Experience & Technical Competencies

Ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of Drilling and Completions application support experience including, but not limited to the Landmark EDM suite- Openwells, Wellcore, Wellview and Rimbase.

Strong analytical skills to include proficiency in the UNIX, Linux and Windows platforms.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with technical application users, IT staff and external vendors.

Self driven individual with the ability to manage large workloads by utilizing time management and multi-tasking skills.

Works well under pressure without compromising the quality of work.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
