Description
The successful candidate will be a key member of the Burns and McDonnell Safety and Health team. The Corporate Safety and Health Specialist is an in-house resource on Safety and Health issues for Burns and McDonnell at the corporate level. This position is responsible for carrying out the tactical Safety and Health direction of Burns & McDonnell and providing professional safety & health support to our employee-owners and project teams. This position facilitates adherence to safety policies and procedures while maintaining compliance with the local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

The incumbent is responsible for implementing organizational Safety and Health initiatives in order to ensure a safe, healthy, and incident-free work place. The successful incumbent maintains good working relationships with all levels of personnel and will quickly respond to questions and/or concerns related to safety and health issues.

The successful candidate will be a team player and possess good decision making skills while supporting management and interfacing with regulatory agencies as necessary. The candidate must be capable of interpreting regulatory documents.

Activities/Tasks

  • Serve as a point of contact on all safety and health issues for which assistance is needed.
  • Provide support to our construction projects, to assure operations are planned and conducted in a safe manner.
  • Provide advice, guidance, and assistance to personnel regarding safety and health issues and work practices. Identify unique safety & health issues, for resolution.
  • Coordinate and mentor project safety & health walk-through assessments. Review any assessment findings with appropriate parties. Follow up by documenting the items which require immediate correction.
  • Periodically distribute information by updating memos relative to safety.
  • Conduct training on safety & health subjects.
  • Review and complete, as necessary, Near Miss, Incident and Accident Investigation reports and recommend countermeasures as appropriate.
  • Fully utilize the assistance of external resources.
  • Assist Sales/Proposal Managers in completing prequalification information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Corporate Safety and Health Director or his designee.
