Clinical Pharmacy Specialist- Emergency and Critical Care (MHB): 

Works with the Director of Pharmacy Services in the establishment and maintenance of a comprehensive Clinical Pharmacy Services Program, specializing in emergency and Critical Care. Coordinates and actively participates in various programs and activities within the scope of the Clinical Pharmacy Services Program. Provides educational programs for nurses, pharmacists, medical residents, physicians, patients and their families. Assists Director of Pharmacy in maintenance of readiness by regulatory agencies and in ongoing compliance with all statutory regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Responsible for the supervision of all associates while they participate in the Clinical Pharmacy Services Program including:

·               Clinical Staff Pharmacists - supervises day to day activities and deployment of Clinical Staff Pharmacists who participate in the Clinical Pharmacy Services Program. Monitors adherence to protocols and policies and effectiveness within Clinical Pharmacy Services Program.

·               Pharmacy Administrative Support - supervises activities relative to operations of the Clinical Pharmacy Services Program, reporting of program activities to hospital committees, policy and procedure preparation

·               Pharmacy Technicians - supervises and coordinates activities of any Pharmacy Technician who may be participating in any department of Pharmacy activity relating to the Clinical Pharmacy Services Program

·               Pharmacy Purchasing – supervises purchasing and procurement of supplies related to the activities of the Clinical Pharmacy Services Program

 

SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM):

 
Education and Experience
·         PharmD degree with Pharmacy Residency and two (2) years of professional experience with emphasis on clinical pharmacy practice, or

·         Bachelor of Science degree with Pharmacy Residency and five (5) years of experience in a clinical practice setting.

·         Valid license and current registration to practice Pharmacy inNew YorkState.
 
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
·         Ability to analyze/interpret and utilize results of various laboratory and microbiology tests and apply them to patient care in a clinical practice setting.
·         Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to convey educational material in an understandable manner to patients and their families.

·         Ability to coordinate activities of multiple personnel and supervise their daily activities

·         Ability to use hospital based information systems including Pharmacy, Laboratory, Patient Accounting and office systems

·         Ability to operate ancillary patient care information systems in conjunction with operation of patient testing equipment

·         Ability to communicate effectively with Physicians, Physicians Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and other allied heath professionals.

 

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

·         Travel to various locations for meetings and educational programs required

·         Works unusual hours, days and shifts to accommodate needs of the educational activities of the Clinical Pharmacy Services Program

·         Works in a clinic setting with considerable periods of standing and sitting
