Nurse Practitioner, Neuroscience - (Catholic Health): Works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary health team, is responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care. Works in outpatient clinical practice and provides inpatient care. Provides acute stroke care and neurology care to Emergency Department patients as well as high acuity stroke patients in house, specifically patients with acute ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. Participates in patient and family teaching. Provides leadership by working cooperatively with health care team members in maintaining standards for professional practice in the clinical setting. Participates in quality improvement initiatives.

 
REPORTS TO: Vice President Neuroscience and Vascular Service Lines. Matrix reporting to Medical Director Stroke Services.
 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

 

SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM): 

 

Education

?         Graduate of an accreditedSchoolofNursing.

?         Maintains a current New York State Professional RN License.

?         Completion of an accredited program for Nurse Practitioners. 

?         Maintains Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner Certification.

?         Meets credentialing requirements as appropriate through the Medical Staff office.

?         Masters degree preferred. 

 

Experience

?         Three (3) years experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred. 

?         Two (2) years experience in the neurosciences preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

¨       CPR Certified                                                               

¨       ACLS Certified

¨       Management of intracranial hypertension            

¨       Ventriculostomy management

¨       Acute cerebrovascular rescue                                   

¨       Ability to perform IV Thrombolysis

¨       Competency in interpretation of CT and MRI of the central nervous system

¨       Demonstrates excellent communication and customer service skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Subject to inside environmental conditions. Must be able to work in hectic environment making sound decisions at all times. Work is demanding and stressful at times. Visual and auditory acuity are essential. Considerable walking and standing during the tour of duty. Knowledge and utilization of proper body mechanics is essential as lifting, pulling and pushing patients and equipment are required. Works indoors in a well lighted, well ventilated area. May be exposed to communicable diseases.
