Job Overview


The Manager, Advisory & Management Programs (AMP), is responsible for over-sight of various programs within Retail & Business Banking Training & Development (RBBT&D), with a particular focus regarding Lean concepts and principles within the Professional Process Certification Program (PPCP).  It will require an experienced Lean Practitioner with broad business acumen, preferably with service / transactional industry background and experience within financial services. The Program Manager:


·         Acts as a consultant to the business to uncover specialized alignment opportunities between the business unit objectives and environment with the  established PPCP framework and content

·         Manages core aspects of the program life-cycle to ensure:

·         Highly dynamic and effective facilitation of the training content

·         Quality effectiveness of programs are measured, sustained and continuously improved

·         Business value is achieved, articulated, understood and promoted with all stakeholders

·         Collaborates with internal and external training design, development and delivery teams to ensure all programs meet business objectives, employee learning needs, and meet best practice adult learning principles




·         Determine client priorities and objectives to support the business through consultation with various levels of management including executive level

·         Facilitate training aimed at service operations performance that constantly strives to eliminate waste, improve customer satisfaction, and increase market share through the use of Lean tools and continuous improvement methodologies

·         Develop business partner knowledge, implementation, and sustainment of Lean and continuous improvement principles that builds measurable capability

·         Manage various aspects of the end-to-end program life-cycle to ensure program delivers full business impact and benefits, including:

·         Support program strategy through idea generation, and planning

·         Support program design through uncovering best practice research and design concepts

·         Proactively, and on an ongoing basis, identify opportunities for program enhancements, revision and continuous improvements

·         Support maintenance, evolution and proactively seek potential retirement indicators

·         Measurement of training effectiveness. Work with business partners and stakeholders on an ongoing basis to measure the success of programs and to address any areas of weakness

·         Lead/support initiatives/projects for all changes to existing business by taking ownership and liaising at various levels of the organization

·         Leadership, mentoring and training to various levels and functions for our business partners on the use and practice of Lean methodology and tools

·         Leads team approach to solving problems. Maintains positive and productive relations with the workforce, management teams, and corporate representatives

·         Develop and sustain strong client/business partner win/win relationships

·         Accountable for benchmarking and best practice sharing across the organization, and to lead by example to evolve culture to be better able to problem-solve, learn from mistakes and continually improve

·         Recognize problems quickly and be able to draw from experience to guide to possible solutions

·         Identify and address policy and program implementation and customization requirements to meet or exceed client needs; assess the impact, effectiveness and feasibility of proposed changes, decisions and recommendations as required



Job Requirements/What We’re Looking For


·         The ideal candidate will possess an undergraduate degree preferably in Engineering, Science or Business and/or formal or informal Lean accreditations and/or equivalent work experience.  Six Sigma certifications will also be considered.

·         Extensive experience in leading and facilitating Lean “Kaizen”-style initiatives with a variety of employee and management levels

·         Progressive (5-7) years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility within a corporate and/or project related environment

·         Highly developed facilitation and presentation skills (preference for having training background and/or education with an adult learning), with an ability to: 

·         Provide learner and manager guidance on relevant RBB T&D elearning programs, Education Units, and other online curriculums, and support administration of programs through CIBC Enterprise Learning (CEL)

·         Support managers and other leaders in coaching newly hired/trained resources who will be, are or have been participants in, PPCP

·         Provide in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of the relevant line(s) of business, including products, policies, practices, systems and procedures

·         Highly effective communication skills (written and verbal) to promote and explain new concepts and applications with an exceptional client focus

·         Strong ability to influence others in situations that require cooperation and consensus, and to take action that is not necessarily within their comfort zone

·         Proven ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships at various levels of the organization

·         Ability to effectively manage multiple activities with varying complexity while under tight time frames, with a solid understanding and application of project management tools and methodologies

·         Self-management, with ability to be effective in unstructured environments

·         Decision-making and creative problem solving skills sufficient to resolve problems or identify innovative alternatives or opportunities to meet both client and business needs

·         Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word and Excel)

·         Compliance with all CIBC regulatory training and ensure these programs and policies are applied consistently across the business. The incumbent is personally responsible for compliance with all such regulatory and governance programs

·         Membership is CSTD (Canadian Society for Training & Development) would be an asset
