Research Scientist - Aerobiologist Job Listing at Clinical Research Management in Frederick, MD

ClinicalRM is seeking a Research Scientist-Aerobiologist to work at USAMRIID in Frederick, MD.

The position will be located at U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) at Fort Detrick, Frederick, Maryland in the Aerobiological Sciences Division. The position requires U.S. Citizenship, a favorable Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) security clearance background check, and a signed confidentiality agreement.

The Center for Aerobiological Sciences (CAS) is one of the only medical biodefense research programs in the country focused in high containment (BSL-3, 4) infectious disease aerobiology. The CAS conducts and supports research on aerosol science, inhalation disease pathogenesis, and evaluation of medical countermeasures for diseases caused by aerosolized biological threat agents. The CAS is a highly dynamic work/laboratory environment that demands performance of high quality results-based research, academic scholarship, and overall ability to work together with a diverse group of investigators and technicians from a variety of basic and applied scientific disciplines. RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Perform duties of a Principal Investigator
2. Conceptualize and design detailed study plans
3. Test a prototype automated exposure system for exposure of rodents, rabbits and nonhuman primates
4. Design and build second generation automated aerosol systems
5. Characterize biological aerosols with respect to viability
6. Tabulate, analyze and interpret data
7. Prepare technical reports and manuscripts for publication
8. Have experience with the following techniques and shall be able to perform the following specific tasks:
   • Aerosol exposures
   • UV fluorescence spectra
   • Electronics
   • Laboratory automation software
   • Optics and optical systems design
   • Maintain a clean, well-organized, functional laboratory environment
   • Coordinate and collaborate with scientists within Division and Institute
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
10. Maintain a safe workplace ensuring that he/she is aware of and observes appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations. Employee is required to attend safety training relative to his/her position and report any infractions of safety procedures to the facility Safety Officer.
11. Performs light duties and other related duties as required and assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Position requires a Ph.D. in a related field.
2. Minimum of eight (8) years of related experience.
3. Enrollment in the Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP) for handling select agents - he or she must maintain enrollment. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements as regulated by Army Regulation 50-1 (AR 50-1)
4. Must be able to work independently following a brief period of specific technical training.
