This position is funded from the Commonwealth's annual operating budget.Duties:
Child Support Enforcement Specialists evaluate and monitor child support cases to establish paternity and to establish, modify, and enforce child support orders; prepare cases for court action; ensure compliance with child support agreements and court orders; conduct research to locate non-custodial parents and identify asset/income available to meet child support obligations; research cases involving failure to pay court-ordered child support; ensure the accuracy of case information by performing reviews and adjusting case information when needed; and assist custodial and non-custodial parents by providing information to them regarding their child support cases through telephone calls, in face to face meetings, or in writing.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE: At least two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, professional or paraprofessional experience in social work, social casework, personnel interviewing, claims adjudication, job placement, recruitment, vocational counseling, employment counseling, rehabilitation counseling, regulatory administration, credit and collections investigation, educational counseling, law enforcement, legal work, or court procedures.
- A Bachelor's or higher degree may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of two years of education for one year of experience.
- One year of education equals 30 semester hours. Education toward a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
LICENSES: Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state.
Candidate must have strong verbal communication skills.
Candidate must have experience in customer relations.
Ability to accurately gather and record information by questioning individuals, reviewing records and documents.
Ability to evaluate information and to make appropriate recommendations.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information.
Ability to establish rapport and to collaborate with others in order to accomplish work objectives.
Ability to establish rapport with persons from different ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds.
Ability to maintain a calm manner in stressful situations.
Working knowledge of software applications (e.g. word processing, electronic spreadsheets, mainframe databases).
Selected candidate must be able to attend statewide trainings at various office sites.
A writing sample, to be done on-site, will be requested following the interview.
