This position is funded from the Commonwealth's annual operating budget.Duties:
The Massachusetts Hospital School is one of four public health hospitals owned and operated by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The Massachusetts Hospital School (MHS) is the primary provider of pediatric inpatient and outpatient services for the Department of Public Health. The MHS provides physically challenged children and young adults with a supportive and challenging adaptive learning program that combines the disciplines of medicine, education, recreation and rehabilitation. MHS is a fully Joint Commission accredited, 120-bed facility located on 186 acres in Canton, MA.

The incumbent of this position will provide direct care to patients including unskilled rehabilitative services, nutritional care including feeding, providing snacks, supplements and assisting as needed. Participate in the development and implementation of the interdisciplinary plan of care, assist patients in direct care in the independent practice of activities of daily living (ADL) including personal care. Interacts and communicates with patients. Communicates information to interdisciplinary team and supervisor regarding any patients physical, psychological and social state that has been observed which may include ADL?s, ILS?s (independent living skills), recreation abilities, peer interacting, interests, cultural background and needs, issues and concerns regarding abuse, mistreatment or neglect. Performs/assists with application of patient?s equipment. Responds to emergency situations. Provide developmental age appropriate care to the school aged, adolescent, and young adult patient. Carries out principles of standard precautions in personal hygiene for self and patients. Maintain cleanliness of environment of patients and other areas as assigned. Maintain environment free of hazardous conditions. Documents on appropriate forms in medical record. Maintains confidentiality of all patient information.
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects or persons.
Ability to establish rapport and interact tactfully with persons from varied backgrounds. Ability to interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress. Attend annual growth and development in-service programs. Attend certification/recertification, BLS, CPR program. Promote a positive impact on service delivery and demonstrate flexibility to meet patient needs. Perform other related work as assigned by supervisor.

CONTINUOUS OPEN POSTING: Full and part-time positions, shift and days off to be determined. Above salary is based on full-time employment and will be prorated on actual number of hours worked.
