Relates to patients appropriately being sensitive to their needs and wishes. Understands and maintains confidentiality of patient information. Participates in Unit and Patient Care Planning Meetings. Assists all nursing staff in caring for groups of patients using learned procedures, and with concern for safety and infection control practices. Understand and uses correct body mechanics in relation to patient care and self, lifts safely. Meets the patients' personal hygiene needs by care of mouth, teeth (including dentures) hair, nails and feet. Administers all types of baths; complete and partial bed bath, tub bath. Gives good skin care including back care. Gives and removes bedpans and urinals; assists patient in use of commodes. Administers enemas. Makes occupied unoccupied beds. Assists the patient in walking to and from the bed, chair and bathroom and on and off a stretcher or wheelchair. Knows how to position patients correctly using proper body alignment. Knows how to weigh patients using mechanical weighing apparatus and measures height. Uses special equipment such as Hoyer lift, Surgi lift, chair and bed scale and etc. Uses equipment safely such as siderails and restraints appropriately. Uses equipment properly; bedboards, cradles, air/foam mattresses, floatation pads, foot stools, etc. Collects routine urine and stool specimens. Takes TPR's; reports results to licensed staff. Immediately reports all unusual observations about a patient to the nurse. Provides a proper environment for patient at mealtimes, assists feeding, and records intake properly. Provides fluids and snacks as required. Documents care on ADL sheet, I & O, turning & Positioning Record. Practices Universal Precautions and follows policies and procedures for disposal of contaminated and biohazardous waste. Answers patient call light and responds to patient requests as appropriate to job requirements. Assists in post mortem care. Assists in keeping all unit areas tidy, clean and uncluttered. Uses courteous telephone manners; is courteous in all conversations. Knows role in Medical Emergencies, (including Heimlich Maneuver), Fire, Bomb Threat and Disaster Procedures. Compliance with all applicable state and federal laws including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) regulations which govern the privacy and confidentiality of information about patients. Performs related duties as required. Qualifications: Minimum Entrance Requirements: None Special Requirements: None Preferred Qualifications: Certification (CNA) required. Approximately 350 patients reside on 13 units; services include: Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Neurology and Behavioral neurology, ophthalmology, optometry, dental, podiatry, urology and infectious disease. As applicable, preference for this position will be given to those candidates who are eligible for Civil Service/ConTest Reinstatement/Reemployment or to those candidates who have passed the civil service examination for this job title, and who respond to the job certification that was recently issued for this location and/or to employees laid off or bumped from this title who are eligible for recall, and in accordance with Article 14 or applicable Collective bargaining requirements.
