This position is funded from the Commonwealth's annual operating budget.Duties:
Provides direct patient care such as taking vital signs, changing simple dressings, performing basic first aid, recording intake and output, giving enemas; applying ice packs and compresses.
Assists nursing staff by running errands, changing linen; transporting and cleaning equipment; delivering messages; responding to patient call lights; serving and collecting food trays; etc., in order to assist in the efficient operation of the patient care unit.
Provides for the daily care and the personal or hygiene needs of patients by giving baths, backrubs and feedings, including G/tube and J/tube feedings; grooming, toileting and performing other activities of daily living in order to promote patient wellness.
Makes observations regarding patient behavior and physical changes and reports them to appropriate nursing personnel according to unit policies and procedures.
Positions, transfers and transports patients using unit equipment and proper body mechanics to prevent injury to patients or self.
Records and documents information in patient records according to current nursing policy to ensure quality and continuity of patient care.
Participates in patient care conferences and staff meetings, and quality assurance activities etc., as required in order to share information and make recommendations regarding patient rehabilitation and treatment plans.
Provides rehabilitative training to patients such as bowel and bladder training, range of motion exercises, positioning, and good body alignment as required.
Performs nursing assistant duties with others in a cooperative, confidential and professional manner in order to facilitate proper communication of patient care.
Rotates on days, evenings, nights and other clinical care units as necessary to provide patient safety on all units and shifts.
Performs related duties as assigned, such as maintaining and updating files; administering post-mortem care; providing meals, snacks and water to patients; participating in training and development programs; ambulating and exercising patients; setting up, cleaning and disposing of equipment; assisting families and visitors; and performing other activities as required to ensure efficient operation of the unit.
