Promotes a safe and functional work environment. Resolves issues on assigned unit. Maintains established nursing service and hospital policies and procedures to ensure a consistent, timely approach to patient care and documentation. Assesses and reassesses and documents the patient?s physical status upon admission and thereafter, using Western Massachusetts Hospital Assessment forms and systems to identify patient problems. Develops and maintains an up-to-date written plan of care for each patient using nursing diagnosis to identify patient problems/needs, care to be given, time frames, measurable patient goals and which team member is responsible for each element of care. Documents changes in the patient?s condition and care rendered according to established nursing service policies, procedures, or guidelines. Performs treatments, procedures, routines and therapies in accordance with nursing care plan, physician orders and established policies and procedures to provide safe effective care to patients. Instructs unit personnel in nursing techniques, procedures and equipment to ensure that staff is prepared to perform their respective duties. Participates and takes actions that are directed by nursing and hospital-wide Quality Assurance activities. Participates in EPRS evaluations by keeping supervisors informed of staff performance through consultation and documentation. Responsible for EPRS evaluations of staff assigned by RN Supervisor. Establishes and maintains therapeutic relationships with patients, families and other members of the care team in order to enhance continuity of patient care. Participates in the selection, control and maintenance of equipment in conjunction with the unit supervisor to maintain optimal functioning. Maintains personal and professional growth by attending in-services, keeping current with contemporary nursing practice, and participation on hospital committees. Performs related duties as assiged. Qualifications: MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a registered nurse in a recognized hospital, clinic or medical facility, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A Graduate degree with a major in Nursing may be substituted for the required experience .* *Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing . * *Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor?s Degree in Nursing and two years medical/surgical experience in an acute care hospital or LTAC Hospital. Comments: CPR certified. As applicable, preference for this position will be given to those candidates who are eligible for employees laid off or bumped from this title who are eligible for recall, and in accordance with Article 14 or applicable Collective bargaining requirements.
