Job Type: Full Time Position Summary:
CVS Caremark is seeking a highly motivated, goal-oriented, and hands on tax professional to complement its existing tax team, reporting to the Vice President, Tax. The Senior Director, Income Tax will support the administration of federal, state and international tax compliance (including controversies), help monitor and shape federal and state tax legislation, and serve as technical advisor to colleagues with respect to all CVS Caremark entities focusing primarily on federal and state taxes.

This is a service role that requires the capability to develop close working relationships with colleagues in the tax department and across many other departments in the organization (e.g., legal, finance, treasury, accounting, policy, regulatory, HR, benefits, and operations) from junior staff to senior management.

To be successful, the candidate must have sound technical skills, common sense problem solving skills, and the capacity to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues at all levels. The candidate must also develop an understanding of the tax group’s priorities, goals, objectives, timelines, processes and standard operating procedures, and use this knowledge to drive projects to completion. Finally, the position requires the capability to provide unequivocal advice, make decisions and recommendations and accept accountability for deadlines, work product, recommendations and decisions.
Position Responsibilities:

•Primarily responsible for Consolidated U.S. interim and annual tax reporting requirements (consolidated SEC and management reporting and U.S. tax filings)
•Ensure proper application of SFAS 109 and other accounting pronouncements
•Ensure tax filings are timely, complete and accurate
•Ensure income tax reporting and related disclosures are complete and accurate in financial statements
•Ensure interim quarterly consolidated effective tax rate and tax forecast are updated periodically, complete and accurate
•Consult and advise on significant transactions and provide timely business support and analysis
•Ensure proper design, operation and maintenance of SOX controls
•Liaison with external auditors re: income tax reporting matters
•Team with federal and state tax managers and directors and Vice President, Tax regarding tax risk management and support of tax audits and federal Compliance Assurance Program (CAP)
•Draft and submit letter rulings, protests and other communications to tax authorities and drive issues through to resolution
•Monitor and analyze tax regulatory and compliance developments and tax law changes and communicate their impact to key stakeholders
•Implement new tax policies, strategies and procedures to support tax and other cross functional initiatives, as appropriate
•Coordinate and team with outside tax advisors
•Mentor and provide training and support to tax personnel
Key Performance Indicators:

•Tax reporting (returns and external financial statements) are complete accurate and filed timely
•Minimal external audit income tax reporting adjustments proposed by the external auditors
•No SOX significant deficiencies in tax
•SOX controls performed by Senior Director, Income Tax are operating effectively
•Proactive and timely business analyses and support
•Valued contributor with respect to special projects, including consultations and advice and support on significant transactions, tax positions, Company-wide initiatives and due diligence
•High tax department and internal customer satisfaction ratings
•Continuous improvement of tax processes and implementation of best practices
•Active mentoring and development of tax team skills and experience

Minimum of ten years of combined public accounting and/or corporate income tax accounting and compliance experience with five or more years of direct management and supervisory experience Strong knowledge of SFAS 109 and other related accounting pronouncements and experience in their application Strong foundation and base of technical skills and compliance experience, including process and controls and use of tax tools, applications and relevant financial systems Experience demonstrates ability to identify, analyze and communicate complex income tax issues and related implications on the Company to key stakeholders and senior management Preferred Qualifications:
