The position of Director, Specialty Product Development holds leadership responsibility for development and delivery of new and enhanced product and service offerings and new business opportunities which may span across the Specialty, PBM and enterprise business units.
The overall level of influence of this role is significant, as this individual will have the opportunity to influence critical strategy choices made by the most senior executives in the Specialty and PBM business. Therefore, the Director role truly requires someone with well developed business instinct, and the ability to structure useful guidance around complex and far reaching strategy choices.
The Director, Specialty Product Development will make high level design decisions that have a direct impact on the viability of key strategic initiatives sponsored at the executive leadership level. These solutions are often driven by complex information flows, enabled by cross enterprise systems, and must be integrated into the workflow of our specialty, mail and retail pharmacies.
The Director will be responsible for leading large cross-functional teams that often consist of other Directors, Senior Managers, and Analysts from across multiple business units. He or she will also interact regularly with executives across the company, including daily / weekly contact with the Executive Vice President, Specialty Pharmacy and the VPs of the Specialty pharmacy functions and weekly / monthly interactions with VPs in Legal, IS, Sales & Marketing (both retail and PBM), Specialty, Mail and Retail Operations.
1. Leads key strategic initiatives, overseeing a team of cross functional team members, to enhance or design and develop new Specialty products and services. The Director also has responsibility for the recruitment, development, and retention of team members within the Product Development team
2. Owns the business relationship with Retail and PBM Product Development Groups, driving the design, definition, and validation of all business requirements and results for Specialty initiatives at the enterprise level. Works with the Specialty Program Management Office to manage systems roadmap including prioritization, planning, sequencing, and delivery of all systems development work needed to support existing and new enterprise initiatives
3. Guides the definition and validation of new business opportunities, including development and delivery of robust a business case for use in prioritization and resource allocation processes across the Enterprise, up to, and including the PBM Executive Committee (EC) and the enterprise Business Planning Committee (BPC)
4. Communicates effectively, both verbally and on paper, at the most senior levels of the organization. The Director must demonstrate the capacity to synthesize complex information from disparate sources into a clear compelling story that helps the organization commit to action Required Qualifications:
PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE: 15+ years of relevant experience ideally within the PBM or pharmacy business, with additional Specialty Pharmacy and retail pharmacy experience preferred. 1. Team Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading large, cross-functional teams in matrix environment. Must possess highly developed relationship-building skills to foster effective working relationships both within the Specialty and PBM business units and across CVS / Caremark 2. Deep Understanding of our Business: Extensive experience/knowledge of the Health Care Industry, with specific background in pharmacy /pharmacy benefits strongly preferred. 3. Structured & Logical Thinking: High-level of skill and experience in process definition. Possesses the ability to break down complex problems into discrete analytical questions and then guide a team to develop strategic, analytical, and financial frameworks to drive design choices 4. Makes Sound Business Decisions: Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced team environment. Can make appropriate trade-offs needed to drive long-term strategies while still delivering on near-term objectives. 5. Impacts and Influences Others: The ability to communicate effectively and succinctly with a diverse range of constituents, both verbally and on paper, and at all levels of the organization.
