Job Description GENERAL SUMMARY
Working under minimal direction and exercising considerable latitude, provides technical expertise in developing solutions to complex software engineering problems, which require frequent use of ingenuity and creativity. Provides work leadership to others. Interfaces with senior management to provide and obtain information and to build onsensus regarding project direction. Assignments may include new products as well as upgrades, and enhancements or fixes to existing products.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Writes functional detailed design specs as well as responding to requirement documents and system level test plans.
Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives, without appreciable direction.
Offers proposed design changes/suggestions to processes and products, exerts significant latitude in determining objectives of an assignment.
Collaborates well with other engineers and other engineering groups, voluntarily shares information.
May be accountable for overall product and/or serve as a customer advocate, may represent organization as principal customer contact.
Significant contributor to organizational goals and objectives.
Interacts cross functionally on matter that require coordination across organization lines.

Competencies

Job responsibilities:

* Design and development new archiving related features for xDB.

* Duties include requirement review, architecture design, system design, code, unit testing, integration and documentation.

* Program and design in Java.

* Work closely with Performance Engineering to review performance test plans.

* Work with an international team in various time zones

Education/Work Experience

* MS in CS or a related technical field and 4/6/8+ years of database or server software development experience or
PHD in CS or a related technical field and 2/4/6+ years of database or server software development experience

Required

* Strong knowledge and experience with Java development

* Strong knowledge of data structures / databases / operating systems

* Strong knowledge and experience with developing complex Algorithms and Object Oriented Design

* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

Desired

* Working knowledge of internal database architecture and algorithms

* Practical experience with profiling java code

* Practical experience with XML software development

* Practical experience with Eclipse, Perforce, Jira, Jenkins, Ant

* Practical experience with the OAIS standard

* Practical experience with Agile/Lean software development methodologies, design patterns and architectural patterns

The candidate must be willing to relocate to Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
