Isilon Systems is seeking a multitalented software engineer to join its Post-Release Development Team. Our ideal candidate is a senior systems software specialist – you are someone that excels in problem solving, debugging, debunking, and reverse-engineering. Your code is intelligent, elegant and efficient.

You enjoy tackling complex code problems as part of a tight-knit engineering team. You are able to describe problems, troubleshooting steps, and solutions to all technical levels, both internally and to critical customers. Your problem statements are legendary. Your strong problem-solving and documentation skills enable you to walk through unexplored territory, drawing the map as you go.

You script and automate routine tasks in Python, Perl, or Java. You are a proficient developer in C or C++. You have some network/systems experience and this informs the need for usability and supportability in your coding.

You’ve seen complex problems through to completion while prioritizing and solving day-to-day commitments. You have the respect of your technical peers, and aren’t deterred by hard work in its pursuit. You drive customer focus in your work and advocate this to your peers.

Responsibilities:

Write and review code (c, python) to resolve customer-facing bugs through development of patches and regular on-going releases
Design and implement new features at all levels in the system - from kernel and filesystem to userspace modules and applications
Design and implement tools for troubleshooting and to address specific customer problems
Champion design and implementation considerations for future OneFS products, providing post-release accountability and key input for new product design
Assist test and triage engineers in failure analysis, problem definition and reproduction of customer issues
Provide frequent, detailed status and action plan updates to internal and external stakeholders, including upper management
Interface directly with customer for requirements gathering

Required Skills

Systems programming experience in Python,Perl, C, C++, or Java (Python a plus)
Experience with network packet capture and analysis, and an understanding of layer 2/3 protocols
Ability to manage multiple projects and see them through to completion
Ability to quickly learn new technology and new products
Ability to multitask while ensuring the highest quality of work
Ability to communicate effectively with customers both face-to-face and remote.
Unix/Linux system administration skills
Proven verbal and written communication skills
Experienced FreeBSD developers strongly encouraged to apply
