Job Description Provides technical and/or business consultative leadership during the pre-sales and/or post-sales cycle. May provide technical or business analytical leadership for specific product groups or business objectives in order to engage the customer or implement and maintain an engagement.

* Contributes to the development of strategies, policies and best practices through participation in management meetings and other direct contributions. Develops and cultivates strong customer relationships ensuring a ''Customers for Life'' relationship. May hold responsibility for achieving the EMC Bar of Excellence as the highest level of Customer Satisfaction for every customer. EMC Proven Professional Certification desired.

* Adheres to proper escalation and change control procedures. Prepares, maintains and submits activity/progress reports and time recording/management reports in accordance with published procedures.

* Stays current on technical specifications for hardware/software requirements of EMC and industry products and solutions through professional associations, trade journals, networking, and associated training and seminars.

* Supports the design and development of the technical content defined in the statement of work. Designs the EMC solution and supports the installation, customization, and integration of the solution. Prepares technical architectural and implementation design documents and works with the project management to develop the implementation plan. Works closely with the project management to define project deliverables and schedules. Helps to identify and leverage EMC and partner resources in order to satisfy the technical needs and objectives of the implementation.

* Participates, as needed, as a technical expert in the pre-sales qualification and is responsible for the delivery of the technical architectural design, strategies and plans that will be a delivered in the engagement. May be responsible for the creation of proposals that address current and evolving client requirements.

* Participates in requirements gathering for project engagements.

* Leads project quality assurance activities, including performing technical QA reviews on components for a team and performing QA reviews of code documentation.

* The role may have one of the additional sets of "specialty" responsibilities as required by the hiring manager:
Applications
Oracle
* Understanding of Oracle Database (multiple versions), RAC, Middleware and Oracle Applications that allow for the architecting of EMC hw/sw solutions in these environments.
* Solid understanding of replication technologies desired.
* Oracle DB Admin certification desired
Microsoft Exchange
* Two to four years experience as an Exchange architect or administrator.
* Knowledge/experience of Microsoft Windows and Exchange consolidations & migrations, messaging industry trends and competitive offerings.
* Understanding of replication technologies desired
. * MCSE, MCSA, MCP, MCTS certification desired
SAP
* Understanding of SAP applications, SAP NetWeaver, BASIS administration, and SAP infrastructure (database, operations) architecture.
* Possesses general knowledge of products, tools, services, messages and content associated with SAP solutions they are asked to architect.
SQL & Sharepoint
* Experience designing SQL Server + SharePoint solutions.
* Knowledge/experience of Microsoft Windows and SQL Server + SharePoint consolidations & migrations, messaging industry trends and competitive offerings.
* Understanding of replication technologies required

* Mainframe
General Skills
* Knowledge of mainframe operating systems and protocols.
* 2 to 4 years experience in the mainframe environment as an systems engineer , programmer or architect with hands on experience.
* Familiarity with capacity planning & performance management, change control , problem resolution, Data center consolidation and migration and project planning.
* Ability to fit into the "EMC Effect" culture
Disk Based
* Demonstrable knowledge of different drive technologies and what workloads match different technologies.
* Knowledge of mainframe DASD tools such as: RMF, GTF, SMF etc.
* Knowledge of SMS, DFP, DFDSS, ICKDFS.
* ESCON and FICON connectivity knowledgeable.
* Familiar with I/O GEN process.
Tape
* Knowledge of different drive technologies and what workloads match different technologies.
* Understanding of MF backup applications: DFDSS, FDR, HSM.
* Knowledge of different tape based solutions from competing vendors.
Virtualization
* Focused on supporting customer initiatives in the Virtualization, Network Convergence, and Cloud Enablement markets.
* Knowledge of networking media, protocols and vendor portfolios.
* A minimum of 2 years of domain experience in the networking industry as an architect, systems engineer, or delivery engineer.
* Knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, ATM, and Routing Protocols is desirable.
* Knowledge of Fibre Channel architecture and knowledge of complementary storage products is desirable.
* UNIX and Linux knowledge including system administration, network administration, debugging and troubleshooting is desirable.

* Converged Networking
* Focused on supporting customer initiatives in the Virtualization, Network Convergence, and Cloud Enablement markets.
* Knowledge of networking media, protocols and vendor portfolios.
* A minimum of 2 years of domain experience in the networking industry as an architect, systems engineer, or delivery engineer.
* Knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, ATM, and Routing Protocols is desirable.
* Knowledge of Fibre Channel internals and architectures and knowledge of complementary storage products along with FCoE is desirable.
* UNIX and Linux knowledge including system administration, network administration, debugging and troubleshooting is desirable.
