The City of "Charm and Tradition," was settled by German immigrants four years before Minnesota became a state. Today this community, which is nestled just 90 miles southwest of the Twin Cities, offers something for everyone.
This city boasts a thriving, diverse economy with a healthy mix of retail, manufacturing and professional services. The exceptional medical and school systems are complimented by numerous city parks, festivals and cultural events that make life wonderful for both citizens and visitors alike.
From one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants to important historical sites, inviting bed and breakfasts and a steady stream of live music and lively conversation, this place is where friends of old and new are greeted with warm welcoming hearts.
Take a ride through the scenic river valley or explore the oak-shaded bluffs and sand-bottomed pool of the state park. Or catch a breather – and take in the breathtaking view – from the city’s monument, second only to the taller copper-sheathed Statue of Liberty.
Local events, held annually, celebrate the German culture through food, music, and beer. One event, the Oktoberfest, has been celebrated the first two weekends in October since 1981. This city is also becoming known as the "Christmas City" with its many Christmas traditions held each year.
Come toast to one of America’s oldest brewing traditions!
