Leap is Fidelity Investments exciting training and development program for new IT graduates. The program is designed to accelerate the development of recent IT graduates to become best-in-class software developers, systems analysts, quality assurance engineers, infrastructure engineers or mainframe developers. Participants in Leap will experience an enriched on-boarding process followed by specific technology, business and professional skills training. The training promises to challenge and excite you with responsibility and visibility. Opportunities for Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 graduates exist in Covington, KY; New England; Raleigh/Durham, NC; and Westlake/Irving, TX.

The Software Development, Systems Analysis and Quality Assurance tracks include three months of technical/professional/business training followed by a three month live technical project assignment sponsored by a business unit. Participants will design, develop and test innovative software solutions core to the firm's ability to provide the best products and services to our customers.

The Mainframe Development track includes9 weeks of technical, professional and business training. Participants will learn a variety of technologies in the areas of mainframe development including: COBOL, TSO, JCL, DB2, VSAM and DB2 stored procedures.

The Technology Infrastructure Engineering (TIE) track offers 7 weeks of training and a variety of on-boarding, networking, technical and professional development training. Upon completion of the program associates are placed in Network/Systems Engineering and Systems Administration/Support roles to evaluate, test and implement technology solutions core to the firm's ability to provide the best products and services to our customers.

Software Development Track

Participants engaged in the traditional Software Development track will acquire knowledge and experience in the areas of:

  • Software Development Life-Cycle - focused on agile, systems analysis, design, development, testing and support of software applications

  • OO Development using UML, Java/J2EE, C++ and XML
  • Web application development using HTTP server, Web Services and Open Source technologies (Linux, Struts, Spring MVC, Hibernate and iBatis ORM)
  • RIA, Ajax, Web Services, JSON, XML, Dojo
  • Flex and Flash development
  • Database creation, development, and data manipulation using SQL and PL/SQL (Oracle RDBMS)
  • Quality Assurance - Unit Testing and System Integration Testing
  • Security - Information Security, Secure Application Development

Mainframe Development

Participants will learn a variety of technologies in the areas of mainframe development including:

  • COBOL
  • TSO, JCL, DB2, VSAM

Systems Analysis Track

Associates engaged in the Systems Analysis track will acquire knowledge and experience in the areas of:

  • Business requirements elicitation and specification
  • System design specification including UI design
  • Project management for Systems Analysis
  • Business knowledge acquisition and application to IT projects
  • Software Development Life-Cycle - focused on agile, business analysis and requirements gathering, project management, quality assurance and testing, support for design and development
  • OO Design using UML
  • Software Development basics including Java, SQL and PL/SQL

  • Quality Assurance - Test planning, test case preparation and execution using industry standard tools

Technology Infrastructure and Engineering Track

Participants engaged in the Infrastructure Technology Engineering track will gain exposure to the following:

  • Clustering Technologies
  • Database Technologies (SQL)
  • Network Protocols Design

Quality Assurance Track

Participants engaged in this track will acquire knowledge and experience in the areas of:

  • Test planning basics including test coverage, mapping of requirements to test cases and end-to-end traceability
  • Test Case preparation - user scenarios, manual test cases and creation or mining of data
  • Systems Integration Testing - execution of manual and automated test cases using industry standard tools
  • Software Development Life-Cycle - focused on agile, business analysis and requirements gathering, project management, quality assurance and testing, support for design and development
  • Software Development basics including OO Design using UML, Java, SQL, and PL/SQL
  • Project Management for Quality Assurance

Qualifications Education and Experience
  • BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other IT/MIS major or concentration
  • Prior technology-related internship experience is preferred
  • Hands-on technical experience in application development, databases and/or networking
  • Interest in financial services industry
