Responsibilities - External: The Geospatial Analyst/Developer for this position will be responsible for planning, conducting and coordinating in-house and external GIS support of natural hazards research. He or she will be responsible for the evaluation, implementation and development of GIS activities.
Tasks may include programming, obtaining, processing and analyzing vector and raster datasets, geo-referencing maps and aerial photographs, digitizing, preparing input data for various natural hazard models, or post-processing model output to create hazard maps.
Other responsibilities involve preparing reports and presentations that describe the results of studies completed or in progress, the relevance of the results for risk management; development of plans for strategic research that will lead to measurable, significant improvements in the ability to enhance methods and tools to quantify and assess natural hazards. Qualifications - External: The position requires at least a Master’s degree in GIS, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Urban Planning or related field with at least 5 years of experience. The successful candidate must have experience with the ArcGIS software suite (ArcMap, ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox and ArcGIS server), both vector and raster data, GIS and technical programming/scripting with python, automated processing and analyzing, and geo-database management. Applicants must have demonstrated project management abilities and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired to have a PhD degree with significant research record, experience with ArcMap’s Hydrology toolbox or ArcHydro, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, technical programming/scripting with other languages in addition to python, and probability and statistics.
