Utilities Engineer II

The Utilities Engineer II will be serve as the system owner for Pure and Plant Utility Systems and will provide engineering support and technical expertise for all Plant Utility Systems which includes (but is not limited to), glass washers, autoclaves, control systems, electrical distribution, RODI, WFI, chilled water and plant steam, Responsibilities will cover generation, distribution, instrumentation and automation for assigned systems.

The Utilities Engineer II works closely with Maintenance, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Validation and MTS colleagues to ensure systems and equipment are kept in optimal working order and are in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practices.

Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for conceptual, preliminary and detailed engineering of new site utility systems/equipment as well as modifications to existing equipment to include generation/updating of PIDs, wiring diagrams, and control panel layouts
  • Assist Facility Operations in performing loop tuning, start up, commissioning and troubleshooting of Plant Utility Systems and support systems/equipment
  • Responsible for ongoing system optimization and continuous improvement initiatives for Plant Utility Systems within regulatory and process limits
  • Assist in the preparation of capital project approval forms, order equipment, replacement equipment, spare parts, etc. as needed, and provide cost estimates for new systems, equipment or modifications
  • Manage external vendors in fabrication of equipment and parts and may oversee installation and repair activities
  • Contribute expert knowledge of equipment during investigations, conduct walk-down of equipment when necessary after a production incident, and review controls, batch records, maintenance records, etc. as needed during an investigation
  • Assist in determining the preventative and routine maintenance schedules for all pure and plant utility systems
  • Manage all change controls (including automation changes) for plant utility systems
  • Stay abreast of new and emerging technologies, and current Good Manufacturing Practices


Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or 10 years of trade or Military training and 5 to 8 years of equivalent experience within a biopharmaceutical and/or other regulated environment
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with various control systems (PLC, DCS, BMS)
  • Engineering related degree
  • Engineering experience with one or more WFI, Pure Steam, RO/DI and HVAC Systems
