Battelle, a non-profit research company, is seeking up to 4 dynamic, bilingual field interviewers to conduct standardized research activities with adults in Los Angeles, CA over a period of approximately 2 ½ to 3 years.

What does the work involve?

Study activities involve working independently to engage study participants in the research process, administer computer-assisted personal interviews (CAPI) with study participants in homes and other locations as needed, schedule clinic exams, and maintain high level of rapport with participants.

Candidates must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel throughout the greater Los Angeles area to trace and locate participants, conduct interviews, and schedule eye exams.

Interviews and other study activities, such as tracing and locating, will be conducted in English and Spanish.

Additional tasks will include obtaining informed consent from participants, tracing and locating participants who have moved, data entry, data transmission, working with other research team members, and directly reporting to the study manager on a daily basis.

Where is the work? The job location is in La Puente, CA. Field work will take place throughout the greater Los Angeles area, and potentially in surrounding areas.

What are the hours? Part-time to full-time employment is anticipated. Hours will be primarily evenings and weekends, with some weekday hours. Flexibility to accommodate participants’ preferences in scheduling interviews is essential to the position. Candidates must be available to attend paid training session in LA in late July – early August 2011. Additional trainings will be required as fieldwork gets underway.

When is the period of work? Approximately August 2011 to January 2014.

What are the qualifications? Battelle is looking for talented, experienced individuals who possess excellent communication and organizational skills, have the ability to follow and document study procedures, possess independent work habits, can accurately complete assigned tasks in a timely manner, and can adhere to strict rules regarding project confidentiality. Required qualifications include:

o A Bachelor’s degree (desirable fields of study include psychology, sociology, or a related social science) with at least 3 years’ survey research or related experience OR 2 years post-high school with at least 5 years’ survey research or related experience.
o Ability to speak, read and write in English and Spanish fluently.
o Advanced computer literacy.
o A valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and good driving record.
o Ability to pass mandatory background check and drug screening.
o Commitment to work 20-40 hours per week.

Preference will be given to individuals who are willing to commit to the full length of the study period.

What are the terms of employment?

o The positions are temporary, part-time and flexible.
o The pay range is $14.50 - $16.50/hr.
