Description
Headway Corporate Resources in partnership with our client Battelle, a non-profit research company, is seeking Part-time Bilingual (Spanish and Creole) Field Interviewer to join the Legacy for Children Long-term Follow Up study that is being funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effects of the Legacy for Children intervention on child development outcomes. We will attempt to follow-up with 284 families, previously enrolled in Legacy for Children, and conduct assessments when the children are 8, 10, and 12. Research staff will trace and locate families, schedule times with participants’ guardians for in-home visits and lab-based assessments, and coordinate with participants’ schools for school-based assessments. The field staff will conduct in-person interviews and administer and score a set of standardized assessments with children, including the BASC-2, Tower of Hanoi, Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Battery, and observations such as the CLASS, H.O.M.E. and Mother-Child Interaction. Staff will be expected to drive their vehicles to locations, including the participants’ homes, to conduct the various assessments over a period of approximately 5 to 6 years.

For this study, Field Interviewer will travel and work independently to selected household locations in their assigned county in order to administer computer-assisted personal interviews (CAPI) with mothers and conduct standardized cognitive and psychosocial assessments with children ages 8 to 12 in home and laboratory settings, conduct classroom observations, and maintain high level of rapport with participants.

Candidates must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to appointments with participants throughout the Miami area in order to conduct scheduled interviews, standardized assessments and observations.

Interviews will be conducted in English only. However, other study activities, such as tracing and locating, will be conducted in English, Spanish and/or Creole as needed.

Additional tasks will include tracing and locating families who have been out of touch, data entry, test scoring, data transmission, working with other research team members, preparing reports, and directly reporting to the study manager on a daily basis. May also involve collecting and shipping biospecimens.

The job location is in Miami, FL. Field work will take place throughout the greater Miami-Dade County area, and potentially in surrounding areas.

Part time employment is anticipated. Hours will be primarily evenings and weekends to conduct personal interviews, and weekday mornings to conduct classroom observations. Flexibility to accommodate families’ preferences in scheduling interviews and observations is essential to the position. Candidates must be available to attend paid training sessions at a time to be determined. Additional trainings in Miami and/or other cities will be required as fieldwork gets underway. Time and travel expenses associated with training will be paid.

The project is anticipated to last through July 2016.

Battelle is looking for talented, experienced individuals who possess excellent communication and organizational skills, have the ability to follow and document study procedures, possess independent work habits, can accurately complete assigned tasks in a timely manner, and can adhere to strict rules regarding project confidentiality.

Required qualifications include:
A Bachelor’s degree (desirable fields of study include psychology, sociology, child development or a related social science)
Prior household enumeration and/or survey interview experience is strongly preferred
Ability to speak, read and write in English and Spanish. Ability to also speak, read and write Creole is highly preferred

**Preference will be given to individuals who are willing to commit to the full length of the study period and have experience in the administration and scoring of standardized assessments with children, such as the BASC-2, Tower of Hanoi, Woodcock-Johnson Psycho-Educational Battery, and observations such as the CLASS, H.O.M.E. and Mother-Child Interaction.
