JOB SUMMARY The unit is a general psychiatric facility with a broad range of diagnoses ranging from bi polar with acute manic episode to major depression with catatonic features. Patients must have a primary psychiatric diagnosis and may have medical co-morbid conditions as long as they can be safely monitored in context of the unit's environment and staff training and do not present risk factors that could impair the safety of themselves or other patients. Patients who have a history of predatory behavior or who are highly aggressive are not appropriate for admission. The Nursing Manager is a registered nurse who has 24-hour comprehensive operational responsibility for the delivery and quality of patient care provided in the designated areas(s) of responsibility. The manager assists with developing and implementing performance initiatives to ensure optimal patient safety and outcomes and customer satisfaction. Demonstrates leadership qualities and critical thinking through self-direction, initiative, effective interpersonal skills and oral/written communications skills. Fosters interdepartmental/interdisciplinary collaboration. Participates in committees, representing unit and Nursing in a positive manner.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Bachelors required. Masters preferred. One degree must be in Nursing. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Progressively responsible experience in a clinical setting for a minimum of 5 years. Leadership experience preferred. Experience in Psych preferred as this is a manager position for Psych. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED Registered Nurse with current Texas license. CPR certification and, for magnet designated hospitals in the system, an applicable magnet recognized certification must be obtained within 6 months (preferred at all other locations). SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Maintains knowledge base necessary to manage specific clinical area. Computer skills: knowledge of hospital information systems and office applications.
