DescriptionPosition Summary
Under the supervision of the Manager of Learning and Organizational Development, the Nurse Educator will provide staff development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent, and leader. Additionally, this role will provide work related health services to include pre-placement health screening, work related immunizations, occupational health/workers compensation claim management, wellness initiatives and clinical competencies for CNA's, LPN's, RN's and direct participant care providers. This position leads the overall functions of clinical/nursing curriculum design, process documentation and clinical competency. Essential Functions and Work Duties The following essential functions of this position are performed personally, in cooperation with your supervisor, and/or in coordination with other staff. Additional work functions and duties may be assigned. CURRICULUM DESIGN AND NURSE EDUCATION (Approximately 40% of Time) •Coaches' adjunct faculty in design and delivery of learning modules to share their subject matter expertise. •Provides ongoing mentoring and training to nursing staff and direct participant care providers in regard to; policy and procedure interpretation, proper documentation, introduction to participants, orientation of InnovAge Cultural Operations. •Evaluates educational programs that are to be brought into InnovAge and acts as a liaison between InnovAge and outside organizations for this purpose. •Selects and/or develops testing and evaluation procedures to be used at completion of training. •Develops and determines instructional design methods that best meet the needs of those being taught. •Selects and/or develops teaching aids such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials and reference works. •Conducts, facilitates and/or organizes training sessions that cover specific areas such as clinic nurse trainings, discipline specific on-the-job training, general staff education and leadership development. •Conducts needs assessments using a variety of strategic tools. •Assists learners in the assessment of needs and identification of outcomes. •Incorporates principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of education programs. •Develops/coordinates core education to address patient population specific nursing care. •Develops/coordinates core education for the development of leaders. •Identifies and evaluates instructional materials in all types of media and formats. •Adjusts content and teaching strategies appropriate learner needs. •Lead corporate wellness and initiative programs. •Identifies or authors courses in Silverchair Online Learning Systems and assigns to appropriate staff; and maintains training records in Silverchair Online Learning Systems. NEW HIRE ORIENTATION (Approximately 30% of Time) •Develops, updates, and facilitates the orientation of new hire of nursing staff in regards to center and departmental daily operations. •Introduces and familiarizes new nursing staff and direct participant care providers with operational policies and procedures. •Oversee new hire and annual competencies for nursing staff and direct participant care providers; ensures that competencies are completed within established timelines, in accordance to federal and state regulations. •Participates in Quality Assurance programs as requested and/or needed. OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH (Approximately 30% of Time) •Supports the Infection and Infestation Control Program by tabulating data and investigating issues as needed. Acts as a resource for infection and infestation control issues. •Assists with equipment selections for new sites and helps standardize equipment throughout all clinics. Reviews requests for new equipment as needed. •Maintains annual mandatory education requirements including emergency skills and unit based competencies. •Maintains a current knowledge of occupational health standards and practices; regulatory legislation. •Perform various medical screening and tests; use comprehensive knowledge and skills in emergency medicine and first aid. •Administer and manage annual vaccination programs as required. •Provide health education and counseling to individuals on disease prevention and health promotion within the workplace. •Design and develop training initiatives/interventions to proactively manage workers compensation claims. •Assist in case management of occupational injuries and illnesses, being proactive in loss control/trending and partner with departments to reduce future injury rates and severity; analyze workers compensation trends to identify opportunities for the improvement of quality, safety and cost containment. •Provide assistance with workers compensation case management and utilization review by consulting with internal partners on complex case management. Requirements Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and Experience •Masters Degree in Nurse Education preferred. •BSN required, MSN preferred. •Current State of Colorado issued RN license required. •Must have a minimum of five years experience of applied clinical experience as an RN in a health related field or as a Clinical Educator or Instructor. •Two years adult education/training experience preferred. •Strong knowledge of health care and long term care experience. •Current knowledge of and experience with Dementia, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's, disease processes in the elderly and common chronic illnesses such as diabetes, congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. •Must have a state issued driver's license, personal transportation, good driving record and auto insurance as required by law. •BLS and CPR Provider preferred. •Recent clinical nursing experience in a hospital or long term care setting preferred. •Certification of Occupational Health Nurse preferred. •Demonstrated knowledge in Worker's Compensation, FMLA, ADA and disability laws, OSHA, and occupational health nursing functions. Computer Skills •Must be computer proficient and possess experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. •Must be able to quickly learn specific software and new applications. Mathematical/Financial Skills •Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. •Able to analyze data and statistics and draw reasonable conclusions and compile accurate reports. Language Skills •Ability to read, analyze and interpret regulations and other documents. •Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively and tactfully present information to, and communicate with, co-workers, employees, and others. •Possess exceptional English written and verbal communication skills, including accurate grammar and business correspondence knowledge. •Ability to read and write memos, reports, and correspondence that conform to prescribed style and format.
