Located on 14.5 park-like acres, Kahi Mohala's 88-bed facility is Hawaii's only private, freestanding psychiatric hospital. Kahi Mohala provides comprehensive behavioral health services for adults, adolescents and children experiencing problems with psychiatric disorders, anxiety, depression, eating disorders. The buildings and grounds offer a complete residential environment with an emphasis on patient safety and security.The Recreation Therapist assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates psychiatric treatment for the recovery and rehabilitation of hospitalized patients with special emphasis on recreation, leisure education, community reintegration, and the provision of hospital-wide special events. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to the Rehabilitation Services Manager as do all staff in the ROPES/Recreation, Occupational Therapy, and Art Therapy Departments.
Education: Bachelor's degree in an accredited program for Recreational Therapy or Recreation Administration with an option in therapeutics is required. Must possess current certification from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC). Experience: Familiarity and/or experience with psychiatric patients of all ages and levels of functioning is required. Knowledge: Must be familiar with DSM-IV and knowledgeable of the mental illness process as it relates to recreation and leisure functioning. Specials Skills/Equipment: Must be able to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and utilize clinical skills, patient assessment, documentation, and implementation of Recreation Therapy Services. Must possess a valid Hawaii Driver's License. Theory and Instruction with ROPES Courses. Physical Requirements: Must meet basic health requirements of Kahi Mohala's physical examination, including TB skin test or chest x-ray. Must be able to physically perform and actively model involvement in all recreational activity components including high and low ROPES elements. Light lifting, as part of program component implementation is required, as well as driving a van, loading supplies, and leading recreational activities. Must obtain and maintain current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training.
