Description
The Kapor Center for Social Impact is currently a fast-morphing community of three organizations: the Mitchell Kapor Foundation (mkf.org), Kapor Capital (kaporcapital.com), and Kapor Enterprises. We are working to better align the tech-driven social impact mission and goals of these three organizations under a unified “Kapor Center” umbrella. The Kapor Center for Social Impact is relentlessly pursuing creative strategies that will leverage tech for positive social change. We are particularly interested in social impact for communities that have historically been on the periphery of access to opportunity, participation and influence in education, politics, economics and health.
We are seeking a special—perhaps unique, even—communications professional to fill a critical need on our team. We know you are out there: equal parts proud tech geek, journalist/writer, online contributor and social change agent.

Your job will be to help us devise and implement a strategy that will increase our presence in media (social, traditional, and otherwise) and articulate our position on the critical need to diversify the field of information technology.

Given that we are positioned at the intersection of technology and social justice, we are interested in working with a professional who has an expertise in planning and implementing tech-driven strategies and activities that will enable us to share – and ultimately influence – social impact efforts and movements.
Responsibilities
Lead on creation of communications strategy in each of our program areas
Maximize media exposure for the Kapor Center for Social Impact through targeted participation in online discussions, traditional media placement, and social media around our thematic emphases
Help drive messaging and positioning for strategic initiatives, including the organization’s growth story, successes and other key areas of focus
Coach founders and staff on media engagement and create opportunities for members of the Kapor Center to represent their specific areas of work
Requirements
Significant professional experience creating and managing communications functions such as messaging, brand management, collateral materials, and social media
Strong relationships with key tech media outlets a major plus
Strong ability to develop and implement communications initiatives with appropriate input from leadership and staff
Familiarity with how VC firms, foundations, nonprofits, and social impact companies function
Passion for social justice, equity, and progressive movement-building; deep understanding/analysis of U.S. race/gender/class power dynamics
Ability to execute on a number of diverse projects simultaneously; comfort with taking initiative and making progress amidst competing priorities
Excellent judgment and political savvy; personal reputation for integrity and ethics
Self-starter; highly motivated; hands-on professional
Proven storyteller capable of creating a great narrative
Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
BA/BS in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations preferred
