Corporate Development Program Summer Associate (CDPSA) Req # 46354 Advance your career at Liberty Mutual - A Fortune 100 Company!   Apply the knowledge gained in business school as a Summer Associate in Liberty Mutual's Corporate Development Program (CDP) at our headquarters in Boston. During this 10-12 week internship, you will experience a challenging assignment within Liberty Mutuals core business functions or corporate departments. Youll be an integral part of a team, get hands-on experience, and contribute to the success of critical assignments. If you are interested in how you can strategically impact the complexities of a Fortune 100 organization, read on for more information about this unique program.   The CDP Summer Associate program is a preview of the full-time Corporate Development Program and a great introduction into the insurance industry. In the two-year full-time development program, consisting of 3-4 rotations, candidates strengthen business and management capabilities and work directly with a Sr. Executive to align assignments based on individual backgrounds and career aspirations. Assignments are aligned with key business initiatives critical to the operations and growth of our business.  The Summer Associate program is a short-term, condensed experience of the full CDP.   Immediate Responsibility
As a Summer Associate in the CDP, you'll have immediate responsibility your assignment. Examples of past assignments include:
  • Finance - Gained a working understanding of the company's acquisition methodology and an understanding of capital markets and bank financing transactions. Screened for acquisition opportunities and developed/ updated valuation models. Supported due diligence for former acquisition. Evaluated rating agency capital model/key ratio forecasting process and developed/implemented recommendations to improve the timeliness and quality of the model's outputs.
  • Underwriting - Analyzed underwriting strengths and weaknesses and the steps to close gaps, compared our appetite to major competitors, and determined marketing needs to support targets and strengths. Involved in the actual account preparation, underwriting, positioning strategy discussions and quote delivery under the tutelage of a seasoned managing underwriter.
  • Distribution - Developed a business plan and execution strategy to grow a commercial book of business. Defined target market segmentation, created a financial model with ROI, identified key performance metrics, and led staffing initiatives.
  • Product Management - Assessed competitive intelligence activities across auto and property and made recommendations to improve process and gain efficiencies. Monthly exposure to senior management to provide competitor analysis and recommendations. Analyzed competitor activities and used learnings to forecast future financial results and expected future competitor activities.
  • Operations - Identified and supported the implementation of critical initiatives that delivered improved sales and service productivity of 4,000 field employees while simultaneously identifying and implementing process improvements that led to significantly higher levels of customer satisfaction. Developed analysis, tools, and project plans focused on driving significant improvements in overall field productivity.

General Management:  Build knowledge and skills across functions, business and product lines. Participate in consulting, project management and functional opportunities with focus on building general management skills.   Finance:  Gain business and corporate experience with focus on core financial operations and partnerships that enable business growth and operational effectiveness.   Data Analytics: - Use data-driven analysis to gain insights about current business practice or potential business opportunities.   Human Resources: Building on strong quantitative, analytical, and project management skills, gain technical skills across HR functions.   Throughout your internship, you'll have multiple professional and social opportunities to engage with other interns, current full-time CDP members, program management and executives.   • Currently pursuing MBA or related Master's degree
  • Competitive GPA
  • Three to five years relevant business experience
  • Demonstrated superior business judgment and financial acumen; effective analytic and integrative thinking; strong leadership skills, including project ownership; and effective stakeholder communications and relations
  • Commitment to a management career in a corporate setting
