  • Job Summary: This position will support LLUMC’s strategic plan and the organization’s mission to continue the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ, while embracing the core values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Wholeness. The Educator-Clinical for Units 4100 (Transplant) and 8300 (Surgery and Observation) provides leadership in the educational process and transformation of care to evidenced based practice at the bedside with emphasis on safety initiatives, quality care, and best practices supported by innovative technology. Collaborates with other members of the management team and staff development educators to identify and address learning needs of staff in a cost effective manner; interfaces with other educators to minimize duplication of efforts and ensure standardization of educational material and processes. Recognizes differences between recent graduates of healthcare provider programs and healthcare providers already in the workplace. Plans educational programs and processes to accommodate generational differences regarding learning and communication styles, expectations, and peer relations. Strategically plans facilitation of new graduates’ transitions into the unit workforce and practice setting. Utilizes discretion and independent judgment to assess clinical performance at the bedside in relation to established performance standards, quality care outcomes, and regulatory requirements. Provides hands-on management that engages staff in adopting a model of accountability, empowerment, and excellence in practice. Interviews applicants and participates in “hiring for excellence” process. Maintains in-depth clinical knowledge in area of specialty and demonstrates clinical expertise in bedside practice. Serves as a clinical resource and coach for staff and influences the workforce to achieve high level of performance reflecting the vision and values of the organization. Contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed. Job Specifications: Bachelor’s degree in nursing required (in progress with quarterly reports acceptable). Master's Degree in Nursing preferred. Minimum of two years of nursing experience, which has provided opportunity to demonstrate competencies in clinical nursing, administration, education, and/or staff development required. California Registered Nurse (RN) License and competencies as specified in the unit/department-specific Plan for Providing Care required. National Certification in area of specialty preferred. Basic knowledge of healthcare law and finance preferred. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., LLUCIS, Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Access; operate/troubleshoot basic office equipment required for the position. Able to: relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to: communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; compose written material; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to: distinguish colors; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position.
