NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of application. Must have a valid driver’s license.An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. Supplemental Information: This is a 24 hour facility. Any degree, certificate, special license, or DD 214 must be verified by official documentation prior to hire. The maximum salary for the Sergeant-Master is $50,586.00.Please refer to the ‘Job Specifications’ tab located at the top of the LA Careers ‘Current Job Opportunities’ page of the Civil Service website for specific information on salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level. ***When filling positions using this Career Progression Group, the eligibility of the Sergeant-Master is 13 years experience [per internal DOC policy]. *** On limited occasions, this position may also be filled at the specialized level of the Corrections Sergeant-Master (leadworker) when one of these positions becomes vacant. It may be filled by either Probational appointment, Promotional appointment, or by Job Appointment. ___________________________________________________________________ ***This position has a Special Entrance Rate at each level*** ***Corrections Cadet has an SER of $2029.73 per month.*** *** Corrections Sergeant has an SER of $2258.53 per month.*** *** Corrections Sergeant-Master has an SER of $2284.53 per month.*** ___________________________________________________________________ Job Concepts: Function of Work: To learn to maintain security of a correctional institution and to observe and participate in supervision, control, and custody of offenders. Level of Work: Entry. Supervision Received: General from training officers and security officers of higher levels. Supervision Exercised: None. Location of Work: Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Corrections Services, State adult and juvenile correctional institutions. Job Distinctions: Differs from Corrections Sergeant in that it is an entry level position with primary responsibility in security such as key room, dormitory, control center, field, trip, or gate officer. May act independently or under general supervision. Examples of Work: Trains in classroom and at on-the-job training sites. Observes security officers engaged in demonstration of security work. Assists security officers of higher level in work as journeyman security officers such as cellblock, dormitory, trips, gate officer, chase team, or dog trainer.
