NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have attained eighteenth birthday at time of application. Must have a valid driver’s license.An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. Supplemental Information: ****This is a Posting to take the Corrections Cadet Test**** You must take and pass the Corrections Cadet Test administered by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections/Corrections Services in order to be considered for a postion with this Department. If you have received a passing Corrections Cadet Test Score,do notapply to this posting. You will need toapplyto the Corrections Cadet Posting for the Agency in which you are interested in. Your application to test is active for90 days. After this time frame you must re-apply to test. Job Concepts: Function of Work: To learn to maintain security of a correctional institution and to observe and participate in supervision, control, and custody of offenders. Level of Work: Entry. Supervision Received: General from training officers and security officers of higher levels. Supervision Exercised: None. Location of Work: Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Corrections Services, State adult and juvenile correctional institutions. Job Distinctions: Differs from Corrections Sergeant in that it is an entry level position with primary responsibility in security such as key room, dormitory, control center, field, trip, or gate officer. May act independently or under general supervision. Examples of Work: Trains in classroom and at on-the-job training sites. Observes security officers engaged in demonstration of security work. Assists security officers of higher level in work as journeyman security officers such as cellblock, dormitory, trips, gate officer, chase team, or dog trainer.
