General Engineer Option: Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus five years of professional engineering experience. 2. Petroleum Engineer Option: Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional petroleum engineering plus five years of professional petroleum engineering experience. 3. Environmental Engineer Option: Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering plus five years of professional environmental engineering experience. SUBSTITUTIONS: (For all options) A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of engineer intern or equivalent experience. A Ph.D. in engineering will substitute for two years of engineer intern or equivalent experience. Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of engineer intern or equivalent experience. NOTE: (For all options) The five years of overall professional engineering experience include at least four years of engineer intern or equivalent experience. Job Concepts: Function of Work: To plan, design, construct, inspect, and/or maintain buildings, systems, or programs by applying advanced mathematics, physical, and engineering sciences. Level of Work: Advanced. Supervision Received: Broad from an Engineer 5 or higher. Supervision Exercised: Functional supervision may be exercised over lower level Engineers and Engineering Technicians. Location of Work: May be used by all state agencies. Job Distinctions: Differs from Engineer 3 by the scope of assignments and responsibility for several engineering programs for a department such as planning, safety, and communications. Differs from Engineer 5 by the absence of responsibility for direct supervision of engineers. Examples of Work: Inspect existing facilities and the related mechanical and electrical systems and equipment in order to prepare recommendations for repairs and/or improvements by physically viewing the premises and making comparisons to design and construction standards. Consult with construction groups in order to prepare special requirements necessary for the proper functioning of the facilities. Reviews economic justification studies for proposed facilities and checks computations and analyses of cost benefit considerations. Manages and executes engineering planning, project control and management, and specialized program administration. Administer safety, communications, resource planning, and quality assurance programs. Perform the most complex engineering reviews of construction jobs in progress and checks for adequacy of supervision given by contractors and architects, materials used, and proper installation and operation of equipment.
