MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a United States Coast Guard Engineer’s License for a motor ferry vessel appropriate to the location assigned.

A valid United States Coast Guard Engineer's License is required upon appointment.
Premium Pay $2.00 per hour worked for Marine Engineer 2 position only.

DDE 1000 HP or higher to qualify as a Marine Engineer 2.

May also accept QMED rating for qualified candidates who are willing to pursue at least a Designated Duty Engineer 1000 HP License. Any such candidates would be placed in the position as a Marine Engineer 1 and would not receive the Premium Pay of $2.00 per hour.

To accomplish engine room and machinery operation on board an inspected state owned marine vessel as defined by U.S. Coast Guard regulations.

Direct from a Marine Master or equivalent level supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.

LOCATION OF WORK:
Primarily the Department of Transportation and Development, but use by other agencies may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Marine Engineer 1 by the presence of full performance engineering duties.

Differs from Marine Chief Engineer by the absence of overall responsibility for engineering duties on board a Coast Guard inspected vessel.

Assumes responsibility, on an assigned shift, for the operation and routine maintenance of engine room and machinery aboard an inspected marine vessel (such as main propulsion diesel engines, main electrical generating plants, hydraulic systems, sanitation systems, pumping systems, electrical and lighting systems).

Maintains required engineering logs and records and makes reports.

Assumes responsibility for safe refueling operations.

May provide functional supervision over Marine Engineer 1 and lower level personnel.
