The Mahwah Environmental Volunteers Organization, Inc. (MEVO) is a youth-lead environmental not-for-profit organization based in Northern New Jersey. We are hiring 1-2 Farm Organizers for our Farm to Live Initiative to manage our community gardens located in Northern New Jersey, specifically in Mahwah, Ramsey, and Paramus. As Farm Organizer you will manage the three community gardens MEVO currently maintains. From coordinating volunteers to come and do farm work, planting, harvesting, and watering your crops, you will keep track of volunteer hours and donated materials, speak to newspapers and other media groups on the importance of clean healthy organic food, deliver donated produce to hunger organizations, and even apply for a few grants to gather funding for the farms. If you are a passionate and enthusiastic person interested in learning about organic farming, sustainable agriculture, and growing your own food this is the perfect position! No prior experience in agriculture, farming, or gardening is required just a volunteer interested in learning about sustainability and organic agriculture in the suburbs of New Jersey. Our hours for the internship are flexible based on your personal schedule ranging from a 5 day to 1 day weekly commitment. Internships can be arranged for academic credit or community service hours. Having experience in environmental studies, environmental science, community organizing, social change, sustainability, food studies, agriculture, farming, gardening, wood working, or leadership studies is encouraged but not required. A love for working outdoors and nature is a must.
