The Real Estate Attorney is responsible for all maurices real estate matters including preparing, negotiating, resolving, and reviewing retail real estate leases and related documents.

Prepare, negotiate, resolve, and/or review retail real estate leases and related documents and correspondence such as letters, lease amendments, and landlord financing documentation (e.g. estoppel certificates, SNDAs) for maurices store locations:

  • Documents presented for signature are thoroughly negotiated and reviewed
  • Build relationships and consensus with those involved to ensure a win-win outcome
  • Use experience/education combined with communication and drafting skills to prepare and negotiate documents that are best for maurices. Must be mindful of needs of various departments (e.g. Stores, Real Estate, Construction, Finance, Lease Accounting)
  • Review and negotiate contracts, service agreements, and similar documents for maurices store and home office real estate-related operations

Research lease provisions related to issues involving maurices store locations

Resolve lease disputes with landlords; clarify or answer questions with maurices best interests in mind:

  • Look for creative ways to address issues/solve problems - use resources (internal such as other real estate department associates, and external such as other real estate attorneys for Ascena) appropriately

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; must be licensed to practice law in Minnesota


  • Two to four years commercial/retail leasing experience required
  • Contract experience required


  • Must be skilled in building cross-functional, cross-division, and external partnerships
  • Strong detail orientation
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills, strong drafting skills
  • Excellent problem solving ability and business acumen
