Job Description


The Systems Architect in I.S. Technical Architecture is responsible for the review and approval of architectural designs for all information systems solutions. The Systems Architect will analyze and evaluate existing or proposed systems as well as new technologies and make recommendations that will increase reliability and performance as well as ensure scalability. In addition, the Systems Architect will provide technical leadership across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the project planning level.


*Architecture & Development:

* Work closely with all IS Departments to design and develop architectures which will support systems to ensure they meet current and future business needs
* Review new and existing systems, procurement and outsourced technical architectures to ensure compliance with standards and architectural plans
* Work with all IS Departments to analyze cross departmental maintenance requests, determine possible solutions and make recommendations
* Work closely with the IS DBA department to optimize data access and storage
* Design, develop and oversee implementation of end-to-end integrated middleware systems
* Train IS Departments on architectural standards and best practices
* Provide the Manager of IS Technical Architecture with updated task information and issues on projects in a timely manner
* Analysis & Support:

* Analyze and document the IS Department’s existing systems architecture and technology portfolio; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives
* Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of systems development efforts and recommend technologies that will increase performance and reliability and ensure scalability
* Identify problem trends (single site or overall) pro-actively
* Develop and execute action plans to determine the problem, develop resolution and implement
* Provide advanced-level technical support to Menards' corporate staff, store, Helpdesk and technical support Team Members to troubleshoot problems as they arise
* General:

* Consistently monitor own work to ensure the highest level of quality
* Suggest and recommend better ways of improving the quality of work in the IS Technical Architecture Department
* Other tasks as assigned by the IS Technical Architecture Manager
* Security and Confidentiality:

* Maintain information confidentiality and security
* Protect and prevent unauthorized attempts to obtain corporate information
* Suggest and recommend ideas for systems and data security
* Report all unauthorized incidents to management

* Bachelors or Associates degree in a Computer Science, Computer Programmingor MIS related field or equivalent work experience
* Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in IS
* Experience with Message Oriented Middleware (MOM), Database Access Middleware (using ODBC/JDBC), Web Services and/or an SOA/ESB system is a plus
* Demonstrated ability to design and implement technical solutions that have increased performance and reliability while still ensuring scalability
* Demonstrated ability to investigate emerging technologies and apply them to IS systems
* Excellent object-oriented analysis and programming skills
* Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills a must
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Excellent analytical skills for problem determination and resolution
* Knowledge of project management tools and methodologies is a plus
* Ability to manage multiple priorities
* Ability to work independently, as well as cooperate with others in team efforts
* Must work within designated normal office hours assigned or required by work
* May be required to work overtime and provide on call support, including weekends and holidays
* Relocation to Eau Claire, WI and minimal travel required
