About This Position

The Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) conducts concurrent reviews of inpatient charts for proper documentation. This includes all new admissions along with re-review at least every 2 to 3 days until discharge. The CDS communicates with physicians and other staff to ensure timely and accurate documentation as well as provides training and education. The CDS will work in conjunction with HIM and Case Management departments to provide comprehensive medical record documentation that reflects clinical treatment, decisions and diagnoses for inpatients. The CDS uses coding and clinical expertise to identify opportunities and ensure accuracy and completeness of clinical documentation. The CDS will be integrally involved in the Clinical Documentation Improvement Program (CDIP) as well as develop reports and presentations as needed to increase knowledge and awareness of the essential importance of correct documentation. Demonstrates an understanding of complications, comorbidities, severity of illness, risk of mortality, case mix index, secondary diagnosis and impact of procedures on DRG assignment. This position will report to the Director of Case Management. DRG education and training. At least 5 years experience in an acute care environment. Coding. CA RN License Bachelor of Science Degree CA Registered Nursing License. CPR required.

In 2009, the Orthopedic and Hand Center opened offering comprehensive orthopedic services to the community. This facility employs over 400 people.
