Basic Function:
TheSenior Enterprise Architect - Server leads and/or collaborates with other I.S. Architects during the planning and design phase of application development and/or systems implementation with a particular focus on SERVERhardware,Virtualizationsoftwareand MS, IBM and RedHat operating systems (Intel x86, MS Power VMWare, IBM Power, soem AS400).
The Enterprise Architect provides system designs and configurations that best accommodates the needs of the specific project/effort while maintaining adherence to I.S. support standards. This position is responsible for understanding and reviewing new technologies and integrating these technologies into a strategic roadmap that is closely aligned with business requirements and improved capabilities. The Enterprise Architect will have direct responsibility for the coordination of tasks for other team members as it relates to specific projects and systems implementation. The Enterprise Architect may be called upon, when necessary, to assist in areas associated with production support. The Enterprise Architect provides advanced production support assistance as part of tiered escalation model.

Produce system solutions and high level technical designs for corporate server technology to meet identified business requirements. Solutions must incorporate scalability, availability, security, and maintainability characteristics. Risks, assumptions, and costs for solutions must be articulated.
Analyze and design architectural improvements to Michaels corporate core server technologies to improve performance, capacity, flexibility and scalability of the entire Michaels application portfolio.. Produce business cases and roadmaps to support these improvements.
Technically evaluate all software development projects that support the Michaels enterprise. This involves establishing guidelines for acceptance and technical review of all design documents with sign-off authority.
On occasion, assist in production escalations, technical systems operations, and problem resolution.
Assist teams in adopting new infrastructure and technologies. Provide documentation, training and mentoring. Remain current in new technologies in the global marketplace.
 Mentor IT organization on adherence to design and architecture principles and
guidelines.
Job Requirements
Job Requirements:
  

 Certification(s) in architecture and/or design.
 Good working knowledge of architecture frameworks. 
Web Services and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)
Ten years technical experience in information technology, including at least 3-5 years? of progressive experience as a solutions architect
Experience in diverse systems and application design in large heterogeneous enterprise environments is essential. Strong retail hardware and server platforming experience.
Experience with technology architecture and design of key retail server infrastructure with a demonstrated ability to design and select the appropriate platform for vertical and horizontal scalability.
Understanding of modern IT production data center and Internet (ISP/ASP) hosting operations
Knowledge of infrastructure components, middleware, SOA, UML, Data Modeling, and Architecture repositories
A strong track record of translating business requirements into technology solutions, with a balance between conceptual and technical architecture skills, is mandatory.
Ability to communicate effectively with business and vendor representatives at all levels as well as maintain strong relationships

Keep up to date and understand best practices and methodologies
Retail IS experience greatly preferred
Educational Requirements:
* BA/BS in Computer Science or related field.
