Organizational Unit Michaels / Information Systems Location Irving, TX, US 75063 Job Type Full-time Job Level Education Bachelors Degree or Equivalent Category Information Systems Job Description Basic Function: The Project Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining overall project management and the business relationships for retail store systems projects, including projects involving Point of Sale (POS). Primary Job Responsibilities: * Planning & Analysis: Working independently with the project sponsor, will lead the effort to formulate a project''s scope and objectives to meet the business need Responsible for devising the strategy and/or plan for projects Manage and participate in the efforts to define, document, and communicate business needs for assigned functional areas. Partner with the business to assess and understand business requests Serve as a facilitation point to assess potential system change impact on business processes Assist business owners to identify, clarify, and document the objective and benefits of any project or enhancement request Collaborate with business owners to determine ROI on project/enhancement requests Work with business areas on key process changes. Participate in efforts to evaluate business process change and potential system impact. Influence process change for most effective execution in existing systems. Oversee the effort to gather, analyze, translate, and document business/user requirements Obtain business sign-off on user requirements Ensure quality standards for process and functional documentation are being met. Gather and document current business processes * Leadership & General Responsibilities: Liaison between the business community and the IT department Advocate for business needs within assigned functional area or business segment Ensure effective communication between Business Relationships team, business segments, other IT groups, and co-source partner teams Manage service expectations throughout the department and business groups Ensure internal operational standards are being followed; Follow the prescribed SDLC process and operational framework High Level Project Manager for assigned initiatives and projects Maintain effective communication with management and project teams Participate in IT or business Steering Committees Manage assigned resources to support business project needs, IT shared service group needs, and co-source partner project or support needs. Liaison for assigned business segments with IT and our co-source partner where technical solutions are required. Consults where needed with other IT groups or co-source partner teams to ensure business project and support needs are being met. Support the Director Business Relationships & Solutions in leadership, appraisals, training, and mentoring other associates within the team Responsible for enhancing own and team''s working knowledge of the business area assigned. Ensures associates roles and capabilities are optimally aligned with the company''s/department''s strategic initiatives; Participates in the recruiting, interviewing and selection process of newly hired associates; Provides leadership, coaching, development, training and career planning to associates; Partners with HR in decisions on personnel actions; Reviews and evaluates work and prepares performance appraisals Responsible for interacting with Sr. Management to understand and help formulate recommendations for strategic IS initiatives * Testing & User Acceptance: Lead or participate in the user acceptance and QA efforts. Ensure quality of solution delivery. Oversee the efforts to prepare testing strategies, test plans, and test cases Evaluate testing results and assess risks Serve as an escalation point for issues Ensure resolution of defects discovered in UAT by the project team Provide general support for the business during user acceptance testing * Solution Deployment: Change agent to the business for needed system upgrades or changes for assigned functional areas or business segments Manage change management activities; conduct assessments and participate in root cause analysis; prioritize changes for implementation; provide approvals for change requests Partner with business, other IT groups, and co-source partner teams in Incident and Problem Management efforts Oversee the effort to create training materials where required Ensure project deliverables are met and user satisfaction has been achieved Manage the effort to provide functional support for the business during implementation and post-implementation phases of a project * Solution Design: Leads effort to assess best solution approach Review or investigate options to solve business problems and meet the business needs Consult and advise on application functionality and usability to meet business requirements Serve as a facilitator across business or IT groups where integrated solutions are required Oversee the effort to document and recommend functional solutions where applicable Oversee the effort to document and recommend business process change Participate in functional design reviews Job Requirements Job Requirements: * 10 or more years of experience managing increasingly complex IT projects for large Tier 1 or Tier 2 retailers. * Retail systems implementation experience, retail systems experience, specifically Point OF Sale (POS), project management experience Educational Requirements: * BA or BS degree * Business, Computer Science or related field of study * Thorough understanding of systems development life cycles including issues, risk and scope management.
